JRI Poland #Poland Brzana Dolna (adjacent to Bobowa) property owner records index 1848 #poland

Russ Maurer

The Przemysl branch of the Polish State Archives some time ago started
to scan and post cadastral maps, landowner records, and other
documents >from its Geodetic (place-based) collection. I have now
indexed the 1848 property records for the small village of Brzana
Dolna, which adjoins Bobowa. The records which were indexed may be
accessed at

http://www.skany.przemysl.ap.gov.pl/show.php?zesp=126&cd=0&ser=112&syg=3

These records include the names of residents who owned either
developed (built) parcels or cultivated parcels, or both, which is
significant because many Jews owned developed parcels but not
cultivated land. I have donated this index to Gesher Galicia for
inclusion in the All-Galicia Database. I am also happy to make the
spreadsheet available to any interested researcher without
restriction. These records include likely or possible Jewish owners
with the following surnames:

ABRAM, KAFEL, KUCHEL, and PLATTNER

In addition to the owner's name, I have indexed the parcel numbers and
the house number, which allows correlation to a cadastral map. There
is no map available online at this time, but there is an 1849 Brzana Dolna
map listed in the inventory of the Rzeszow branch of the PSA, which
may become available in the future. I have also indexed the scan#, which
makes it possible to jump directly to the correct document page >from the
main page linked above.

I hope Bobowa area researchers find this useful. It is my intention to
index similar mid-century records >from other towns where there appear
to be Jewish property owners.

JRI Poland #Poland ViewMate 44499: posting re Zeiderman family. Help required. #poland

Hello,

I've posted a vital record in English/Hebrew for which I would
appreciate some help, please. It is apparently a marriage
authorisation for the parents of my husband's late aunt. I am
unable to read the names of the towns/villages >from which the
Bride and Groom originally came, and any approximation I have
assumed has not been successfully recognised on JewishGen
Townfinder, or by Googling.

I understood that both the Bride and Groom came >from Poland
and now wonder whether this is correct. If possible, I would also
like to know whether there is any further information on the
authorisation concerning the bride's family. There is something
in Hebrew which unfortunately I do not read. It is on ViewMate

Greetings,

A direct ancestor of mine was a Hasidic rabbi in Poland and a
disciple/contemporary of the Choze of Lublin (Horowicz/Horowitz).
We have in our family some males who married HOROWICZ.

Can anyone see/find if/how Ita HOROWICZ/HOROWITZ or Syfra Chaja
HOROWICZ/HOROWITZ fit into the Choze's line?

Also, Rabbi Jakow-Arie BIEDERMANN daughter Mattel Chana (or Martel
Chaje) married into our family. Can anyone find how R. Jakow-Arie
fits into the larger BIEDERMAN rabbinic family?

Many thanks!

Latvia SIG #Latvia Association of Lithuanian Jews in Israel Archive #latvia

Carol Hoffman

On 7 February 2016 Rachel Levin-Rozenzweig announced that the archive
of the Association of Lithuanian Jews in Israel moved to the Diaspora
Research Center of Tel Aviv University. Rachel established the archive
in 1980. In the 35 years of its existence the archive collected
important documents, letters, books, personal archives, photographs
and films about Jewish life in Lithuania >from the mid nineteenth
century through its tragic demise during the Holocaust. Upon its move
the archive registered 1,585 monographs, over 50,000 documents and
photographs, and 25 films. Materials in the collection are in
Lithuanian, Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian, English, German and Polish.

It is hoped that the University reservoir of professionals and
researchers will catalog the material so as to make it available to
the public at large via the internet. For more information, see the
Archive at http://www3.tau.ac.il/ggcenter/index.php/en/ and choose the
tab, Archive.

As we approach the date of Lithuania's independence 16 February 1918
we are reminded of the Ministry of Jewish Affairs in that first
government that granted Jews autonomous administration of cultural,
religious, and social welfare organizations. The archive of the
Association of Lithuanian Jews hold important original documents from
that Ministry including protocols of meetings.
