Romania SIG #Romania Update on Search for M. ROTH #romania

Michael Waas

Hi,

To all who have written me, thank you so much for your help! I believe
I may have stumbled on to the answer but I have yet to find the
conclusive evidence for it. I found a Morris and Fannie HORN living
with someone who appears to be my g-g-g grandfather in the 1905 NY
Census at an address right nearby to 1952 2nd Ave. (this was the
correct address as I misread Ave. as Str.).

Problem is I lose track of this Morris and Fannie before 1900 and
after 1920. I think Fannie died between 1920 and 1930 but I can't find
a death record that would fit.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated again.

Thanks!!

Best,

Michael Waas

Many thanks to JewishGen VP Dick Plotz for pointing out the Jewish Gen
infofile for researchers, listing names and contact information for tour
guides and companies located at:

http://www.jewishgen.org/InfoFiles/Researchers.htm

I apologize that I did not check that before posting my message.
In any case, I did receive over 15 responses >from my posting, giving
me the name and contact information of tour guides, tour companies
and/or researchers in Eastern Europe.

GerSIG members are indeed wonderful !!!

If anyone is interested, you can contact me and I will share
the information I received privately.

Hi All,

I've posted the first page of the 1836 census of the Jewish community
of Mattersdorf. I would appreciate a complete translation of the
header at the top. I can read the names in the list without problem.
However, I am having trouble deciphering and translating the comments
in the right column and would appreciate a translation of them.

See:

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thanks!

"Tochter nach" instead of "Tochter von" #austria-czech

I have an 1860 death record for Katharina SUCKY in Triesch that's bothering
me. It gives her "father", but in an odd way: it say "Tochter nach dem
Triescher Familiengehörigen Bernhard Suchy". Usually it should say "Tochter
von dem ....", indeed that's what it does say for all the other people. Has
anyone else seen this anywhere? Could it mean she was an adopted child? Or
his child with another woman and then adopted (he was married)?
Thanks for any advice.

Request help with details of Great Grandparents born in Austria #austria-czech

scott@...

In the course of building my family tree I have tracked my paternal
great grandfather, Henry EHRLICH, as having been born in Austria, the
ship his wife and he were on coming to the USA, and his death
certificate.

I also learned that my paternal grandfather, Simon Ehrlich, noted a
"cousin" Harry Ehrlich.

My current goal is to try and learn Henry Ehrlich's parents' names.
I obtained his father's name, Joseph Ehrlich, >from Henry's death
certificate, but have no details of his mother's name or anything.

If I can learn that, I can try to then learn of Henry's siblings, one
of which should lead me to a child named Harry.

I have emailed a couple locations in Austria per a web search >from the
results of records found on ancestry.com, my present home-base for my
tree.

I have come up empty for any further details of Henry's parents. I
know almost everything else about him through Ancestry.com's found
records.

As an aside, most of my family >from the late 1800's to present ended
up in the Massachusetts, USA area (where I am from). I did recently
find Henry's grave site at a cemetery my parents have frequented with
my father's parents and Henry's wife.

Any help/insight/details anyone can offer about Henry Ehrlich, born
November 6, 1872 in Stanislawow, L'viv, Ukraine and of his wife,
Rebecca Ehrlich (maiden name unknown), birth year unknown but died
January 29, 1935 at age 57. US Census and immigration records show
Rebecca was also >from Austria, or at least Henry and Rebecca married
somewhere and came >from Austria.

I do not have the time, nor resources, to personally visit Austria and
perform the research myself, though I would love to!

Thank you all very much.

JewishGen's Memorial Plaque Project Adds 5,400 Records. We Need Your Help to Grow! #austria-czech

Nolan Altman

JewishGen is proud to announce its 2013 year-end update for the
Memorial Plaque Project database. The MPP database can be accessed at
http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Memorial/
The MPP database includes the data >from plaques and Yizkor lists >from
synagogue and other organizations.
Many of these sources include patronymic information.

The database now includes more than 35,100 records >from the USA,
Israel, British Columbia, and now Morocco. These records come >from
57 different synagogues and other institutions.

We believe that the MPP is a good example of how users of JewishGen's
databases can "give back". If you are a member of a synagogue or
other organization with memorial plaques or Yizkor lists, please
consider helping us to grow this database.
You can find more information on submitting data at
http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Memorial/Submit.htm
If you have additional questions, please contact me directly.

Of particular note in this update are the following additions:
• Boston Area, Massachusetts. Thanks to David Rosen, who is
coordinating submissions >from the JGS of Greater Boston, he and his team
have added 3,500 records >from 6 institutions.
• Congregation Agudas Israel, Newburgh. Many thanks for the
submission of 1,250 records >from this Newburgh synagogue.

Whether your name or records are listed above, we appreciate all your
submissions! Thank you to all the donors that submitted information for
this update.
