My mother's much older first cousin Ida WEINTRAUB was born in Shavli, Lithuania
in 1903.

She was married in Lithuania to Meyer KUPERSHMIDT, born Aleksotas, Lithuania
in 1905 and in 1935 they migrated to New York where her parents

Rabbi Misha Ber WEINTRAUB and his wife Bluma COHEN were living. With them
was their son, Leib KUPERSHMIDT, born 1928 in Kaunus.
Ida died in 1981 under the name Eda KUPERSMITH.

Leib KUPERSMIDT changed his name to Larry KUPERSMITH or COOPERSMITH. I
would like to find him or his family.

Meyer KUPERSHMIDT was a journalist. I would like to know in which newspapers
he wrote in Lithuania and then the USA.

Any other information on them will be appreciated.

On Wednesday, August 7, at the Conference, I will present the how to do it
of a project I have been working on to remember the Jews of Miroslav,
Czechoslovakia, a small town in Moravia.

A Torah >from Miroslav >from the Czech Memorial Scrolls Project is on permanent
loan at Temple Beth El in Huntington, NY. Of the Jewish community of about
425 in 1938, I have documented the fates of close to 400, of whom about 35
survived the war.

My talk will cover the resources I was able to consult and how the temple
has chosen to remember Miroslav. I will explain the Czech Memorial Scrolls
Project, a brief history of how these scrolls were collected and documented,
and all of the various ways I was able find documentation on the Jews of
Miroslav. This project is replicable at any of the over 1,500 synagogues
world-wide (including over 1,000 in the US) that has a Czech Holocaust
Torah. It is also valuable for those who had family in any of the Jewish
communities of the Czech Republic, specifically Bohemia and Moravia, that
were not heard >from after the war.

If your synagogue has one of these Torahs or you are looking to research
people >from Bohemia or Moravia, I hope to see you at the conference.

tremendous effort to begin indexing the information. After having spent
endless hours at the Archive for the History of the Jewish People in
Jerusalem going over miniscule records with a magnifying glass until my eyes
were bulging out of my head, I was inspired to join the project and help
prevent further blindness for my fellow Gersiggers.

I chose to do the records for *** Kreis Fulda *** in honor of my mother who
was born in Fulda and my grandfather who was born in Flieden.

It's challenging work to read the records but I'm excited by the idea that
lots of others will be able to trace their family records easily with the
assistance of these records.

in KZ Buchenwald and buried in Vienna:

a) KZ Buchenwald was one of the largest camps on German soil and
has been extensively researched and documented.
As a first step I suggest Lin to ask Gedenkstaette Buchenwald for
details about this prisioner and similar cases, and to read about
the role of the Resistance in this camp.

b) The distance in air between Weimar and Vienna is 480 Km;
road distance is 708 Km, and travel time today is about 7 hours.

c) Buchenwald administered 90 subcamps. During the height of
World War II this number reached 136. Some of these sattelite
camps were located near the border with Bohemia,
