Joachim Salinger

Hello, my name is Joachim Salinger. I'm 35 years old, french and my grand-
father, Bernhard SALINGER, is born in Laskownica, nearby Szubin, in Poland.

He was a German Jew, born in november 1902, as all his family from
this area. His father was born in a little village called Liepe (now
Lipa, on the road between Nowy Dwor and Swoboda).

I know that persons of my family has also lived in Niekosken (now
Niekursko), in Deutsch-Krone (now Walcz), in Sch=F6nlanke (now
Trzcianka), in Wronke (now Wronki), and probably in other nearby locations.

I'll be in this area for 2 to 4 days around 20th August, and i would
ask you if there is a possibility to have some informations about the
jewish remains (cemeteries, synagogs, jewish district) in this area
(Netze Kreis or Notec area).

I would like also ask you about the possibility to consult archives
and records of birth, marriage and death in thoses town and villages.

Where are they, who i need to contact, what approaches should I do upstream?
Finally, i'll be also very thankfull if you can give me some contacts
of people which can help me there such as Guide, Historians, jew's
specialist, this kind of thing. If you think you can help me directly,
don't hesitate to contact me and i'll give you ore specific informations.

Anyway, thanks for having took the time to read this.

Jewish Veterinarians in Germany 1918 -1945 -SITE CITE #germany

Yvonne Stern <yvstern@...>

In reference to Jeanette Rosenberg=B4s message about Medical
Doctors who made aliah before the war, there is a very
thorough research about Jewish Veterinarians in Germany
from 1918-1945 , submitted by Georg Moellers for his
PhD Thesis at the Tieraerztliche Hochschule Hannover in 2002.
http://elib.tiho-hannover.de/dissertations/moellersg_2002.pdf

The research goes so far as to show the "Saeuberung" (cleansing)
undergone in many University Archives in the postwar years.
After 1950 hundred of files stocks that in some way had to do
with Jews were not available anymore.
For example: enrollment of Jews and Jewish "Mischlinge",
including foreign students of Jewish descent.

Hello All,

I want to thank for the help I got to find the pre-WWII Berliner
Goethe-Gymnasium. The old building is still standing and it is now the home
for the Katharina Heinroth-Grundschule.
And thanks to one of the responses I received I could locate the house where
my wife's grandparents had lived. Best reagrds,

JGSGW Meeting in Potomac, MD on Sunday, August 18 #general

Marlene Bishow <mlbishow@...>

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Greater Washington, Inc.

invites all interested parties to our meeting on
Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 1:00 PM
at Congregation Har Shalom in Potomac, MD

A Double Header!

Part I:
A Webinar: "JRI-Poland - Learn and Ask!"
Presenter: Stanley Diamond, Founder & Exec. Director
Jewish Records Indexing - Poland

The story of Jewish Records Indexing - Poland is well known. But researchers
want to know how the database and ongoing indexing work in Poland will be of
benefit to their personal family history projects.

This webinar will include a very brief overview of the current activity,
focusing on what's new and what can be expected in the months and years to
come. However, the main emphasis will be on answering questions >from
attendees, to provide answers that may not be readily apparent on the
JRI-Poland website and to share news about data that is not yet online.

Part 2:
"Ask the Experts"
With a panel of JGSGW Mavens

After the presentation, there will be an Ask The Experts session to be
moderated by Dr. Eugene Alpert. Participating on the Experts panel will be a
number of senior JGSGW members with expertise in a broad set of topics. Each
expert will talk a bit about their own area of expertise and give a short
list of tips for beginning family researchers.

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, the IAJGS recognized the KehilaLinks project
for its "outstanding contribution to Jewish Genealogy" at the just
completed conference in Boston. We are incredibly pleased that the
project has been acknowledged, as we have considered it to be an
incredibly useful resource since its inception in 1996.

But we must also take a moment to formally acknowledge Susana
Leistner Bloch and Barbara Ellman, the leaders of the KehilaLinks
project.

It is safe to say that the KehilaLinks project would be
unrecognizable in its current form, without the countless hours of
hard work, planning, brainstorming, and simple devotion that Susana
and Barbara display on a constant basis.

As anyone who has worked with them knows, they are constantly
available to answer questions, and will do their best to help people
be successful in their Jewish genealogical research. For this reason,
we view this award not only as a "JewishGen award" but as a well
deserved honor for two of our most important volunteers, Susana and
Barbara.

Please join us in congratulating Susana and Barbara by leaving your
congratulatory comments on our facebook page by visiting:

Your comments will surely be appreciated.

Plunge death records incorrectly listing husbands as fathers #lithuania

Eric M. Bloch

In going through Plunge death records 1842-1939, I've run into several
cases where the husband was transcribed as "father." I don't know if the
original record was incorrect or the transcriber failed to put the
husband's name in the proper column of the spreadsheet. This, of
course, is only a problem for the older women who have died. Thus, a
word of caution when using these records for deceased women over about
the age of 18. The name listed as "father" may really be their
husband's name.

New Book: Forever Torn #lithuania

Andrew Monfried <monfried73@...>

A family member of mine in London, Jason Greenfield, has written a book
about his grandfather's life, called Forever Torn. Following extensive
interviews with his 93-year-old grandfather, Jason weaves the tale of a
man whose origins began in Linkuva, Lithuania in the early 1920's. The
crux of the book is the tragedy that befalls the family when his
grandfather reaches London and that continues to affect the family to
this day.

I maintain no financial interest in this project, and this week, the book
is available for a free download at Amazon.com for anyone with a Kindle
or the Kindle app. It's a particularly striking book for me because Jason
brings some of the records I found in LitvakSIG and JewishGen to life.
Some of my grandmother's second cousins in Jacksonville, Florida, London
and Johannesburg, who I found >from piecing together revision lists and
birth records, figure into this tale in a significant way.

Thanks,
Andrew Monfried
