The Nevek of Bekes County was published in 2002, it contains the Jewish Cen=
sus also called Jaross list. They were made on order of the German authorit= ies and prepared by the Jewish communities. The date the list were made for= the neolog community of Bekescsaba is April 10th and it was filed in the G= endarmerie Debrecen on the 16th April (1237 Person). Few days later came th= e orthodox list (812 Person). The list was prepared shortly after the Germ= an occupied Hungary, it was probably the basis of concentration in Jewish h= ouses and later the ghettoisation and deportation and it contains the names= of deported, murdered, survivors, persons in KMUSZ (Military forced labor)= , persons in hiding etc. The Bekes book is different as the one >from Hajdu= County, in Hajdu county each community has a special list, in Bekes county= it is organized in alphabetical order, so that families might be separated= , as the next example shows: HILF ADOLF..........................LOWINGER = REGINA....B=C3=89K=C3=89SCSABA 67349 HILF ADOLFNE....GLASNER MARGIT......GL= ASNER N..........B=C3=89K=C3=89SCSABA 67350 HILF MARTONNE...WEINBERGER JOHA= NNA..WEINBERGER ROZA....OROSH=C3=81ZA 69479 HILF RUDOLFNE..................= .....GOLDSCHMIED BETTI..B=C3=89K=C3=89SCSABA 67082 HILF S=C3=81NDOR........= .................GLASNER MARGIT.....B=C3=89K=C3=89SCSABA 67351 the persons= belonging together shows the number behind the community, so Hilf Sandor (= 67351) is the son of Hilf Adolf (67349, correctly Andor) and Adolfne (67350= , correctly Andorne). Best regards Gabor Hirsch

Czech Torah Project
#austria-czech
cmw521@...
On Wednesday, August 7, at the Conference, I will present the how to do it
of a project I have been working on to remember the Jews of Miroslav, Czechoslovakia, a small town in Moravia. A Torah >from Miroslav >from the Czech Memorial Scrolls Project is on permanent loan at Temple Beth El in Huntington, NY. Of the Jewish community of about 425 in 1938, I have documented the fates of close to 400, of whom about 35 survived the war. My talk will cover the resources I was able to consult and how the temple has chosen to remember Miroslav. I will explain the Czech Memorial Scrolls Project, a brief history of how these scrolls were collected and documented, and all of the various ways I was able find documentation on the Jews of Miroslav. This project is replicable at any of the over 1,500 synagogues world-wide (including over 1,000 in the US) that has a Czech Holocaust Torah. It is also valuable for those who had family in any of the Jewish communities of the Czech Republic, specifically Bohemia and Moravia, that were not heard >from after the war. If your synagogue has one of these Torahs or you are looking to research people >from Bohemia or Moravia, I hope to see you at the conference. Chuck Weinstein Bellport, NY

My mother's much older first cousin Ida WEINTRAUB was born in Shavli,
Lithuania in 1903. She was married in Lithuania to Meyer KUPERSHMIDT , born Aleksotas, Lithuania in 1905 and in 1935 they migrated to New York where her parents Rabbi Misha Ber WEINTRAUB and his wife Bluma COHEN were living. With them was their son, Leib KUPERSHMIDT, born 1928 in Kaunas. Ida died in 1981 under the name Eda KUPERSMITH. Leib KUPERSMIDT changed his name to Larry KUPERSMITH or COOPERSMITH. I would like to find him or his family. Meyer KUPERSHMIDT was a journalist. I would like to know in which newspapers he wrote in Lithuania and then the USA. Any other information on them will be appreciated. Thanks, Jules Feldman Yizreel, Israel MODERATOR'S NOTE: Please respond privately with family information. For pronunciations in all languages, you can visit www.forvo.com - free of
charge. You choose the language and the word/name, and then listen to native speakers pronounce it. If the word is rare and has not yet been pronounced online, you can submit the word for pronunciation. I am just a frequent visitor to the site as part of my work and have no other affiliation to it.
