Gassner family from Krakow
#galicia
Ted Kotzin <tkotzin4713@...>
I am looking for details about my father-in-law's grandfather, Josef
Gassner. He appears to have been born in Debnike, a suburb of Krakow, in 1839. He went to Antwerp around 1888 where he was a diamond merchant. He was apparently there as late as 1915. He had 4 children, Leopold (my wife's grandfather), Ernestina, Helena, and Adolph, all of whom were born in Krakow and came to America between 1886 and 1902; I have plenty of information about them. There is a family story that Josef and his children insisted they were Austrian, not Polish, with the possibility that the family was >from Vienna. I would like to know if anyone has further information about Josef in Europe. Note that there was another Joseph Gassner >from Krakow, born 1870, who went to London and had 7 children; I have not yet determined the exact relationship, but would guess his grandfather and Josef's father were brothers. Ted Kotzin tkotzin4713@... Researching: BOAZ: Frankfurt, Atlanta. CIMBERG/KIMBERG: Kremenets (Ukraine). FINKELHOR: Kovno Gubernia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland. GASSNER: Krakow, London, S. Africa, Belgium. KATKISKY: Kovno, Suvalki Gubernia. KOCH/COOK: Kovno, Cincinnati. KOTZIN: Kovno, Moscow, S. Africa. NEUMANN/NEWMAN: Frankfurt, New York, North Carolina. SINGER: Lithuania, New York, Los Angeles, Israel. WAGNER: Kremenets, New York

Dear All
We are sorry to inform you of the passing of Grigory (Tzvi) Chosid of Grodno. Most of you who travelled to Grodno, Belarus, probably met with this person. He was 87 years old, one of the eldest members of Grodno Jewish community and Grodno ghetto survivor. During the WW2 he miraculously was able to escape >from the train that transported Jews >from Grodno ghetto to Auschwitz concentration camp, and he ended up in Belsky's partizan unit. All his relatives and family perished in Holocaust. After the war all his life he used to work as a school teacher. He spoke 6 foreign languages He used to be a head of Grodno Jewish community for many years. Grodno authorities made an exception and gave permission to bury Mr. Chosid at the old Jewish cemetery, which was closed for burials a long time ago. May we share only happy occasions together. Warszawczyk
#general
Ajzenberg Michel <miajzenberg@...>
In my genealogical tree I have only one branch which is still missing. This
branch concerns my mother's cousin who's name is Warszawczyk (I'm quite sure about the spelling). He lived in New-York and more precisely in Brooklyn. I visited him in 1979 but I lost his complete address. He was born around 1915 so I suppose he is not living anymore but I would be happy to get in touch with his children. If it could help I have an old picture of him and his family. Does anyone of you have an idea on how to proceed? Thank's Michel Ajsenberg Paris- France MODERATOR NOTE: Please respond privately with contact information.
