Recently, I found a number of online resources about Latvian Jews as follows:
There is a discussion by the European Union of multilingualism in Latvia and one of the official languages listed is Yiddish. The info provided discusses the Jews in Latvia which is interesting to read: http://ec.europa.eu/languages/euromosaic/lat5_en.htm An interesting piece entitled "Latvian Jews Between Germany and Russia" by Frank (Efrayim) Gordon who was born in Latvia is of interest: http://vip.latnet.lv/lpra/frank_gordon.htm Yad Vashem has a site with information on various Latvian towns and also provides videos of testimony. Photos are shown of various murder sites including Skede and there is testimony >from survivors >from Liepaja, only one of which is in English, that of Efraim Neuberger, the others are in Hebrew and Russian: http://www1.yadvashem.org/untoldstories/database/murderSite.asp?site_id=572 Ann Rabinowitz annrab@... |
