These were two pages of a letter in a language I could not identify. I thanked
those who replied on viewmate and privately for identifying the language as German
in an old script and those who took the time to translate the letter.
I think our ancestors deliberately left strange messages for us just to confuse us
and keep us interested. The letter is >from a woman, Mathilda WITIES, writing in
1939 to Julius SILBERMAN who was living in New York. Mathilda was writing >from
Lwow and got Julius' address >from his brother Norbert SILBERMAN. She wrote that
she had been looking for a way to contact him for twenty years. I have no idea who
Mathilda Wities was but am now curious - it was odd to find this letter written to
Julius among my randparents' papers - all the other letters we have >from their
"stash of letters" were written directly to them - Blima Grass and Harry (Max
Heinrich) SILBERMAN.
Is anyone familiar with Mathilda WITIES >from Lwow, 1939?

Firstly, may I offer my condolences to the family of Stephanie Weiner and long life
have found him on the Ellis Island site re entering the USA >from Buenas Aires,
Argentina, in 1912. Having first arrived in 1900, according to this record.
However there is no record of the origional entry.
In 1912 he is married to Sophie nee' Topman, and has two children, Abe and Ida.
They state that they are going to stay with Sophie's parents in E. 11th. St.
Manhattan.
It seems Nathan died some time between 1917-1920, although I can't find any record
of this or where he may have been buried. I have looked on the burial sites without
success. I think I have hit the proverbial wall.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

To begin with, I am very excited to inform you that no less than 5 new
Translation Project funds were initiated over this last month:

Now, for those aren't familiar with the concept, the Translation Funds are
set up to collect donations for the professional translation of the Yizkor
Books. Since finding a skilled volunteer translators capable of taking on
the translation of a whole book is usually not realistic, our recommendation
is to set up a fund, within JewishGen, into which all of those people
interested in a particular community book can help support its translation
and for which donations are tax-exempt for US citizens. So if there is a
book you would like to see translated, please contact me and I'll explain
the ins and outs of how these fund work. Note that you'll find a full list
of our ongoing projects at:

Other good news this last month was the kind donation to the Yizkor Book
Project of the Kielce, Poland book "The Martyrdom and Extermination of the
Jews in Kielce During World War II" by Prof. Krzysztof Urbanski, the first
sections of which have already been added. Please note that in recent times
we have received a number of complete books which are, slowly but surely,
being added into our Yizkor Book projects.

To begin with, I am very excited to inform you that no less than 5 new
Translation Project funds were initiated over this last month:
- Briceni, Moldova

- Sierpc, Poland
- Smarhon (Smorgon), Belarus
- Sokyryany (Sekiryani, Bessarabia), Ukraine
Now, for those aren't familiar with the concept, the Translation Funds are
set up to collect donations for the professional translation of the Yizkor
Books. Since finding a skilled volunteer translators capable of taking on
the translation of a whole book is usually not realistic, our recommendation
is to set up a fund, within JewishGen, into which all of those people
interested in a particular community book can help support its translation
and for which donations are tax-exempt for US citizens. So if there is a
book you would like to see translated, please contact me and I'll explain
the ins and outs of how these fund work. Note that you'll find a full list
of our ongoing projects at:

and any financial support you are able to offer would be gratefully

Other good news this last month was the kind donation to the Yizkor Book
Project of the Kielce, Poland book "The Martyrdom and Extermination of the
Jews in Kielce During World War II" by Prof. Krzysztof Urbanski, the first
sections of which have already been added. Please note that in recent times
we have received a number of complete books which are, slowly but surely,
being added into our Yizkor Book projects.
And on completed books, the first books to roll out of our Yizkor Books in

To begin with, I am very excited to inform you that no less than 5 new
Translation Project funds were initiated over this last month:

- Sierpc, Poland
- Smarhon (Smorgon), Belarus
- Sokyryany (Sekiryani, Bessarabia), Ukraine
Now, for those aren't familiar with the concept, the Translation Funds are
set up to collect donations for the professional translation of the Yizkor
Books. Since finding a skilled volunteer translators capable of taking on
the translation of a whole book is usually not realistic, our recommendation
is to set up a fund, within JewishGen, into which all of those people
interested in a particular community book can help support its translation
and for which donations are tax-exempt for US citizens. So if there is a
book you would like to see translated, please contact me and I'll explain
the ins and outs of how these fund work. Note that you'll find a full list
of our ongoing projects at:

and any financial support you are able to offer would be gratefully

Other good news this last month was the kind donation to the Yizkor Book
Project of the Kielce, Poland book "The Martyrdom and Extermination of the
Jews in Kielce During World War II" by Prof. Krzysztof Urbanski, the first
sections of which have already been added. Please note that in recent times
we have received a number of complete books which are, slowly but surely,
being added into our Yizkor Book projects.
And on completed books, the first books to roll out of our Yizkor Books in
Print Project will very shortly be available. If you wish to know further

Before detailing last month's statistics, I would personally like to wish

I just found something that helps a lot with searching, no matter where you do it.
On http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html click on FAQ_HELP_INDEX in the upper
right. (Unfortunately I don't see a way to access that directly.) There's a lot
of good information on that page; the part that grabbed me particularly was how to
use "Boolean search terms" - something that has always evaded me! I quote (using
_ _ to indicate italics):
Search terms may include the following special characters:
? Matches any single character. Example: _appl?_ matches _apply_ or _apple_.
* Matches any number of characters. Example: _appl*_ matches _application_
~ Stemming. Example: _apply~_ matches _apply_, _applies_, _applied_.

To begin with, I am very excited to inform you that no less than 5 new
Translation Project funds were initiated over this last month:

- Sierpc, Poland
- Smarhon (Smorgon), Belarus
- Sokyryany (Sekiryani, Bessarabia), Ukraine
Now, for those aren't familiar with the concept, the Translation Funds are
set up to collect donations for the professional translation of the Yizkor
Books. Since finding a skilled volunteer translators capable of taking on
the translation of a whole book is usually not realistic, our recommendation
is to set up a fund, within JewishGen, into which all of those people
interested in a particular community book can help support its translation
and for which donations are tax-exempt for US citizens. So if there is a
book you would like to see translated, please contact me and I'll explain
the ins and outs of how these fund work. Note that you'll find a full list
of our ongoing projects at:

and any financial support you are able to offer would be gratefully

Other good news this last month was the kind donation to the Yizkor Book
Project of the Kielce, Poland book "The Martyrdom and Extermination of the
Jews in Kielce During World War II" by Prof. Krzysztof Urbanski, the first
sections of which have already been added. Please note that in recent times
we have received a number of complete books which are, slowly but surely,
being added into our Yizkor Book projects.
And on completed books, the first books to roll out of our Yizkor Books in

To begin with, I am very excited to inform you that no less than 5 new
Translation Project funds were initiated over this last month:
- Briceni, Moldova
- Jadow, Poland
- Sierpc, Poland
- Smarhon (Smorgon), Belarus
- Sokyryany (Sekiryani, Bessarabia), Ukraine
Now, for those aren't familiar with the concept, the Translation Funds are
set up to collect donations for the professional translation of the Yizkor
Books. Since finding a skilled volunteer translators capable of taking on
the translation of a whole book is usually not realistic, our recommendation
is to set up a fund, within JewishGen, into which all of those people
interested in a particular community book can help support its translation
and for which donations are tax-exempt for US citizens. So if there is a
book you would like to see translated, please contact me and I'll explain
the ins and outs of how these fund work. Note that you'll find a full list
of our ongoing projects at:

and any financial support you are able to offer would be gratefully
received.
Other good news this last month was the kind donation to the Yizkor Book
Project of the Kielce, Poland book "The Martyrdom and Extermination of the
Jews in Kielce During World War II" by Prof. Krzysztof Urbanski, the first
sections of which have already been added. Please note that in recent times
we have received a number of complete books which are, slowly but surely,
being added into our Yizkor Book projects.
And on completed books, the first books to roll out of our Yizkor Books in
Print Project will very shortly be available. If you wish to know further

which has all you would like to know about this steadily growing project.
Before detailing last month's statistics, I would personally like to wish

It is with a heavy heart I report that Jane Stephanie Weiner, of
San Diego, whom many of you have known >from her many years of dedicated
work in the fields of Jewish genealogy and librarianship, quietly and
peacefully passed away at San Diego Hospice in the early morning of
March 1, 2012 (Adar 7).
Stephanie had very recently been diagnosed with advanced stage
pancreatic cancer. Despite the many challenges and decisions she was
handling, she remained active, her wry sense of humor intact, enjoying
her genealogy work right up to last week, when she suffered a severe
stroke.
Stephanie's cousin Marc Tieger will officiate at a graveside funeral
this Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 1:00 PM at:
Beth Israel Cemetery

Woodbridge, NJ
