We are a little group of people trying to verify if our ancestors born in Emden/Bunde/Jemgum in the 1600’s are really related to the Henrique family who settled in Gluckstadt in the early 1600's. Some researchers think that they would be children of Josua Moses Henriques born in 1665 in Gluckstadt, Manuel Mendes Henriques Cohen born around 1640 in Gluckstadt, a Female Mussaphia Dionis Hinrichen born around 1640 in Gluckstadt or Manuel Mendes Henriques Cohen born around 1640 in Gluckstadt (parents unknown), However, until now we found not written evidence on such link.

Can people point me towards accounts relating to the German-Jewish life in Jackson Heights, New York in the 1930s-60s? I'm looking for anything – such as published or unpublished personal memoirs, fictionalised accounts, academic studies or photos. There's quite a lot that's easily available on German-Jews in Washington Heights, but so far I've not found anything on Jackson Heights, despite the fact that significant numbers also lived in that neighbourhood.

I did not get my interest in that statistics, but here is final stats, after we completed to research all 68 microfilms. There are 68 microfilms in that section. From that number: 4 microfilms were marked in FamilySearch that they have Jewish records 28 microfilms we found with Jewish records 13 microfilms we have already looked at 40 microfilms do not have any Jewish records So, we have new 17 microfilms with some Jewish records in them. Most probably not the same Max Ellman. The one naturalized in 1924, was born on May 14, 1889 in present-day Ukraine. The military records are for a Max Ellman born on Nov 20,1891 in present-day Poland.

Marcia, My parents married in the rabbi's office. This was in Brooklyn right before my Father went to The U.S. Army at the start of WW11. After the ceremony they had a small party at my maternal grandparent's apartment. They didn't even have any music because my paternal grandfather had recently passed away, and my maternal grandfather said music would not be appropriate. As far as I can tell, large weddings (for most people) did not become common until the 1950's in The U.S. As with everything, I'm sure there were exceptions. Regards, Sherri Bobish
