Thank you to everyone who has helped so far. I have one last
question, and then that should be it for awhile. I found a note about the divorce of Josek/Isek/Icek ERENBERG, which mentions my ancestor Jankel ERENBERG. This is on ViewMate at http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=19411 and on LDS film 715442 in the left margin of 1832 marriage #29. What does this note say about Jankel ERENBERG? How are Jankel ERENBERG and Josek/Isek/Icek ERENBERG related? Stephen Weinstein Camarillo, California MODERATOR'S NOTE: Please respond privately or on the ViewMate form. |

Amickam,
the synagogue is officially opened only once a year around 17th July, for "Brunonalia", a celebration of Bruno Jasienski. This year that small and curious festival takes place >from 11th to 16th July. The building belongs to the Association of Jewish Communities in Poland (an umbrella organization for the few Polish kahals), but stands on the grounds of the Krakow Jewish community. One would have to contact the Brunonalia office or the Krakow Jewish community office to see if there is a way around. Also, you can see some pictures >from inside the synagogue at this address: http://www.klimontow.net/start/klim-synagoga.html As for the cemetery, there are plans to put a monument there with all the remaining pieces of tombstones incorporated into it. As for pictures, I only found one, taken right after the war: http://collections.yadvashem.org/photosarchive/en-us/24278.html Best regards, Witold Wrzosinski avanim.pl |

Donations still needed for FrenchSIG speakers!
#france
rdleeson@...
Dear Fellow SIGgers,
I am writing once again to ask for donations to help with the costs of the speakers for the FrenchSIG at the DC Conference in August. I am sad to say that only a couple of people have given to the cause, so far. We have worked hard to get these speakers, and with a membership over 650 I had hoped that there would be more of you interested and willing to help defray the costs we have incurred in doing so, and avoid an embarrassment to the SIG. Any amount that you feel comfortable with will be deeply appreciated! You can go to: http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/ and click on the FrenchSIG link in the right-hand column. The very first item under FrenchSIG Projects, is the FrenchSIG Speakers' Fund. Please consider giving something to help! We would not be asking if were not absolutely necessary! Hoping that more of you will contribute! We grow desperate! Rosanne Leeson Co-Coordinator FrenchSIG |

Dear Genners,
I am looking for Elisabeth Jaeckel and Monty Keene Pishny-Floyd who are listed on Jewish Gen. They were researching the name JELINEK/JELLINEK in the town of Brno. Could these researchers please contact me as I have recently found ancestors in Brno who were Jonas (Johann) Jellinek and Regine (Regina) DUSCHAK (Duschek, Tuschak). Their daughter, Hermine Jellinek, married my great uncle, Samuel GOTTLIEB in the late 1800s. Please reply directly to my e-mail at jjellins@... Jack Jellins. (formely Jellinek) Sydney/Australia. |

island" has been discussed at length on jewishgen. (The short version is that this didn't happen, because the ship's officers were required by law to file a manifest based on the passenger's travel documents, and immigration officials were forbidden by law to make any changes at the point of immigration.) But if you know that your grandfather arrived at Ellis Island, you can search the manifests for his arrival. (It would help to know the date and/or ship and/or port of departure, etc., as well as his date of birth, or age at arrival, and whether he was travelling alone or with family.) If he was naturalized, you can also try to obtain the naturalization certificate which may also have some useful clues. tom klein, toronto Gene Desfor <desfor@...> wrote: |

I live in Belgium and when I transfer the money with the BIC and IBAN codes, it usually works fine. I did not have to pay any extra money for the transfer. The IBAN code for Polish bankaccount sis usually PL and then the 26 digits of the bankaccount. To get the BIC code, you could try for example this website: http://www.ibancalculator.com/blz.html or contact the archives (as I did). I did it in the past a few times with success. Hi
I'm hoping there is someone who can help with this puzzle. I am trying to find the roots of my husband's mother's family who came from Polotsk, Vitebsk Gubernia, which is in Belarus today but archives are held by Latvia. The family name is PIATOFF, and this is what I have found and what we know. Abel Piatoff - my husband's great-grandfather Death certificate lists Date of birth as Dec. 27, 1839 Father: Yehudah Leib, mother Mary Abrahams Likely >from Polotsk, Belarus First wife - unknown Second wife - Rachel Hindess, my husband's great - grandmother; daughter of Zorach Hindess and Hinda Cohen, According to his IMMIGRATIONS RECORDS: Abel PJATOW (spelled in the US as PIATOFF, was 65 and widowed when he came to the US in 1910 with his "daughter" Hinde/Ginde, age 21. We don't know of a daughter named Hinde so we have to guess who he was escorting. According to family history Abel came to US with his wife,Rachel (Rose) Hindess, who was 30 years his junior, making her 35 at the time. Would there be a benefit for them to pass off his wife as his daughter? BURIAL RECORDS:I have not been able to find a record of their burial which was probably in the 1920's or so in the US.
