i don't know if it's the correct answer, but "nov mesty" sounds familiar.
"nove mesto" means "new town", i believe, so there are a whole bunch of them throughout the old "greater hungary". look on

the munkacs area was religious and largely hassidic, so i would expect them to be more on the observant end of the scale (at least >from the old country). it isn't jewish custom
