Depending of where the father died there might be a gravestone of the father somewhere in Israel or Germany. Jewish granvestone in Germany often have a Hebrew and a German side.

My grandpa's first name was Solomon, the English version of Shlomo in Hebrew. .
However, friends and family always called him Sally. The friends & family were all mother tongue German
