I'm sorry if this sounds silly but in researching a brother of the ancestor, his lists his father's name as Dove on the death certificate. There is nothing on the tombstone. I don't see the name

I don't think I can ad any insights, but my family name is Shayevitz. My paternal grandfather came to New York by way of Dvinsk, Latvia (Daugavspols). His family actually appears in an 1893 Russian
