This could also be a neurological condition. My ggrandmother couldn't bend two of her fingers - it looked like she was pointing with the two of them held together.

A shutter release ended with a rubber bulb. To squeeze it, all fingers are engaged. Since this is a studio photo, it's beside the point. The had gesture was accidental, most likely. If I am mistaken
