I am hoping that someone can identify the young woman whose photo is at
ViewMate p. 15355 www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=15355 We know that she was >from our Edelson (formerly Idelovich) family but are otherwise unable to identify her. The photo was taken either in the U.S. or in Manchester, England, in the mid-1940's. Separately, I am also hoping that someone can put me in touch with fellow Genner Annette Guerron and/or can identify the family members in the photos that she sent me some time ago. These photos are posted on ViewMate (see below). Annette contacted me concerning my Edelson / Idelovich and Silverman-Zilberman families >from Kovno Guberniya, Russia - see towns, also below. Although most of my family ultimately emigrated to the U.S., they initially emigrated to Manchester, England. Evidently, Annette's family also lived in Manchester. Unfortunately, it appears that the email address that I have for Annette is outdated. As a result, I have been unable to tell her that we might be related. In that regard, one of my Edelson cousins identified the young couple in Annette's photos as Max and Lena Liebowitz. As a child, this cousin thought that Lena Liebowitz was a close friend of her mother, Dora (Danke) Gans Guttenplan. However, there is reason to believe that Lena and Danke were actually related. FYI, Danka's mother was Mary Hinda Idelovich Gans and her grandmother was Malke Zilberman Idelovich. I found a Max and Lena Bassman Liebowitz / Leibowitz (1869-1927; 1872 - ?), who lived in Passaic, New Jersey, and Queens, New York, >from 1900 - 1927?, children Isador (aka Edwin), Sidney, Alexander and Eleanor, but have no way of knowing if they are the same people. There is also a Lena Leiber Harrison Sax / Sachs in our family (1861-1928) who lived in Manchester. It is possible that Leiber might be a shortened version of Leibowitz. Researching Marcus and Henriette/Henrietta TUSKA:came to USA about 1848
#general
elowith
Hi all,
As I work on locating death records and cemetery locations for my family, I have run into a bit of a problem. I can not find any records for my great-great-greats, Marcus and Henriette/Henrietta Tuska. They came to the States in about 1848, and all of their offspring are interred in Salem Fields Cemetery in NY. I did find a newspaper obituary for Marcus dated July 1871, but no mention of his wife at all nor where he was to be buried.. There are no death records (or anything close to them) that pop up in a Steve Morse search for them or my great-great grandfather's first wife (Wilhelmina Tuska nee Rosenbaum), though per Census mortality report she died in 1870. Salem Fields claims not to have them, and I don't know how to proceed to try to track down records and/or their final resting spot. I did try contacting Temple EmanuEl (the Temple the second generation belonged to in NY City) and they said they could not help. Thanks for your help in advance, Joanne Tuska Goulding Placitas, New Mexico frelzna@gmail.com Interested in surnames: BRAUER (Germany), LEOPOLD (Alsace-Lorraine), TUSKA (Hungary), GOLDFADEN(Russia/Ukraine), SELIGMAN (Russia/Lithuania), and BURANSKY (Russia/Lithuania)

Hebrew/Yiddish translation needed

Janis Quaile <jfquaile166@...>
Good evening,
I found an old Ketubah and think it belonged to either my grandparents or parents. Possible names are Smoger/Smagarinsky, Kasanofsky/Kolmetzsky, Samuels, Smoger. Grandparents were married in NYC in early 1900's and parents were married in Philadelphia about 1936. Would love to know exactly who the couple is, actual dates of marriage, witness (if any) names. Basically, since I am unable to read Hebrew or Yiddish, any information will be appreciated. Ketubah is found at http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate number is 15385. Thank you, Janis Samuels Quaile, Philadelphia, PA Researching: Smoger/Smagarinsky, Kasanofsky/Kolmetzsky, Brody/Brauda, Szmigelski, Malinkowitz Direct url: http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=15385

Hi All,
For those of you with an interest in the tombstone photos >from the Mattersburg Jewish cemetery that are being posted on the Austrian Jewish Museum blog, I have started to annotate the ones of the people that Yitzchok Stroh and I have researched.
