Information about Hungarian Census 1848 #hungary

radovansremac@...

Hello,
does anyone know which archive keeps the original Hungarian Jewish census f=
rom 1848? I am interested in city Novi Sad (Ujvidek) in former Bacs-Bodrog =
County.

Thank you.
Radovan Sremac

Moderator: Radovan may not be aware that the Hungarian State Archives in Budapest
keep many, but by no means all, records >from the 1848 Conscriptio Judaeorum (Jewish
Census). Our researchers have found additional records in County archives in
Hungary and in Slovak archives, some of which have already been indexed and are
available for researchers to search at the JewishGen Hungary database.

I have posted a photo on ViewMate at the following address:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM72630
in an effort to obtain information about the family of Sali Scheier, the
younger sister of my maternal grandmother. Her parents were
Toni/Fani Rufeisen and Aron Scheier. I believe that Sali was born in
Sucha, Poland about 1885 or so. In this family photo taken in Ostrava
in 1939, are Sali Scheier (maiden name), with her husband Jakob and
son. I am trying to find the married surname of Sali, as well as that of
her son.

In addition, I know that Sali was living in Bermuda in the 1950s since
my grandmother, Sidonie Fodor (Scheier) used to visit her there.

I have posted an image >from an internal Austrian empire passport,
which is in Cyrillic, on ViewMate. I would appreciate someone
providing as full a translation as possible for me.

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM72626

I do know that the passport is for a woman with the last name of
KREITZER and her four children and that the passport is dated December
1st, 1911. I am particularly interested to know if the passport
indicates the name of the town they are departing from. I believe
that the family was >from either the district of Litin or Kamenets
Podolski in the 1900's which are in current day Ukraine.

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thank you very much,

Ponsowy Family from Kaluszyn #poland

Dear All

I have recently found more information about my paternal grandmother =E2=80=
=93 about whom the family knew very little. So this is an attempt to maybe =
find some descendants of her siblings. My grandparents were already in Engl=
and in the early 1900s. Whereas most of my gfather'ss family also came
to England, my grandmother had no relatives in England.

Her name was Chaya Tzivia Ponsowa >from Kaluszyn, born in 1881. Her family
is also listed under Ponsowy >from Kaluszyn. Her parents were Perec Ponsowy
and Rifka Fyzsman.

Family lore has it that she had 4 brothers who "maybe" went
to the States.

I have obtained some of the vital records and am in the process of
obtaining others. So far, I have evidence of one brother Judka, born 1868.

So, if anyone whose ancestors are >from Kaluszyn think they have any
connection to this family, I would love to hear >from you.
