Re: Comments about format change

Karen Gwynn

I am not an active member of this site, but I do read through my emails looking for topics of interest (surnames and locations). I find the new format easy to use on my computer while online. I have not tried using while offline, so I cannot address any of the issues I've heard others mention. I like being able to quickly jump to a topic and then get back to the table of contents.

I hope it all settles out soon.

I was just exploring  a link to the Oriental research collection at Oxford University in England. This includes Yizkor books, publications in Yiddish and Hebrew and much more. I do not know how much of the material is available online as I just found the website. hope someone can benefit from this resource!

Hi All,

According to this
link:https://www.ushmm.org/online/hsv/source_view.php?SourceId=20699 ,
there is a list of businesses in Oradea that is searchable in JewishGen.
Is it true?
When I searched the town of Oradea in JewishGen Romania Database, I
didn't any source who description is "lists of businesses" or
something of this sort.

Thank you.

I am not getting my SIG messages either. What do you have to do to receive them?

Moderator note: There was no change at all with the SIG groups. Only the JewishGen Discussion Group was upgraded at this time. When a message is posted in your particular SIG group, you will still receive it

Re: PLEASE READ: Multiple Digest Issues

Deborah Blinder

I suspect that once the focus of messages in this discussion group turns back to genealogy and away from the new format, the digests will likely dwindle to one a day. Before the change, there were rarely more than 12 posts in a daily digest.

Dear all -
I too found the multiple daily digests very annoying, and switched to "daily summary", which I find very comfortable.
I really like the interactive interface in the new format, which allows one to easily see all messages in a thread, as well as all the other new bells and whistles.
That having been said, I would like to point out that this is indeed a change that might take some getting used to, by us the users.
Also - using the daily summary makes it that much more important to use a meaningful subject line.

Thanks for your good work.

Re: JewishGen.org Discussion Group - Digest #1

Eva Lawrence

I was able to change the size of the messages in the Digest by right-clicking and choosing Zoom. The Digest became much easier to read. Also, my Digest arrives with blue base and header - perhaps the green one isn't due to Jewishgen, but to your email programme..

I found I had to come up with a new password to access my mailing list subscriptions but your old password should still work on the main website. Mine still does. It’s a shame we now have to have two.

Re: Replying individually to someone who has posted a message

Sue Frank

I have now opted to receive individual messengers/threads as I find that easier than the daily digest. Even though this generates more emails, I can create a filter to put Jewishgen emails in their own folder. On the individual emails it’s easy to reply to the person who sent it rather than to the group by going to the sender’s name at the top of the email. This links to their email address. I don’t know if this also works in the digest as I have now changed the way I receive messages.

Bruce,

This is how the email you sent appeared.   Note the sender’s name (Bruce Drake).  All I had to do was click on your name to see your address. I then copied it and put it in the  To: space of the email.

I'm sure the answer to this is staring me right in the face, but on the old listserv, when someone posted a message you could see his/her email address is you wanted to send a reply that might not be of interest to the whole group. But I'm not seeing it on this new platform. Where do I look or how do I do it?

Platform and Android

Tammy

Hello,
I like the new platform but have a few questions, mostly related to using it on an Android phone. I'm not sure if it relates to the settings of the digest or to my phone settings, so if anyone can please enlighten me, I'd appreciate it.

1) The digest headings are hyperlinks to the actual discussion topic. I like the idea but can't seem to get the links to work on my Android. (I've enabled links). If this is a browser problem, how can I fix it?
2) The digest font is small. How do I make it larger and fit what I'm reading into the screen?
3) This question is related to the above two. When I click, "Load more" on my Android, the digest changes size and is no longer user friendly within the confines of the Android screen. I need to scroll back and forth in order to read the screen. How do I remedy that?

If these are not browser problems, but rather problems with the format of the digest, I'd appreciate someone providing a remedy to these issues.

I want to thank all the people who are embarking on modernizing our Jewish genealogical community by updating the Jewishgen.org website and the digests. Most of you are volunteers and I appreciate all that you are doing!

Thank you,
Tammy Weingarten
