Re: 1938 Deportation #galicia

I suggest that you check information on Zbaszyn. On October 30,
1938, the immortal Emanuel Ringelblum (who was born in Buczacz)
was sent by the JDC in Warsaw to supervise the efforts to help the
Polish Jews expelled >from Germany. Zbaszyn was the town where they
were concentrated. I suggest you Google Zbaszyn and you will find
the text of a letter that Ringelblum sent plus a great deal of
other information.

My grandmother Malka BEIN who lived in Leipzig, Germany, at the

in Gorlice, Poland, her birthplace. This was a journey of many
hundreds of miles. How did she get there?

I am interested to find out what happened to these deportees (who
numbered in the thousands) in the days following their
deportation. Is there any record of how they made their way >from
here to there? Is it known who helped them make their journey?

Re: GOLDMAN and Zwehill (?) Dynasty, Brezezany #galicia

I am looking for information on a Chassidic dynasty described to
me by an Israeli as named "Zwehill". I believe they sourced in
Brezezany and one name in the family was GOLDMAN. A daughter of
the family, Chaye Devorah A"H, was the second wife of Reb
Yissacher Dov (1st), ADMOR of Belz and so was the grandmother of
the current Belzer Rav.

Does anyone know anything about the Zwehill dynasty, the GOLDMANs
or Chaye Devorah or anyone who might be related in to this dynasty?

Thank you.

Please see the IAJGS website (http://iajgs.org) for lists of past
and future conferences. Conferences have been held annually since
1981 (twice in 1984!), at locations that have included Jerusalem,
London, and Paris, as well as North American cities. Coming up are
conferences in Los Angeles (July 2010) and Washington DC (August
2011) and then scheduled for Paris (2012) and Jerusalem (2014). We
are still looking for a location for 2013 --- any one interested?

Re: Galicia Towns #poland

Eric Ellman <EEllman@...> asked about the location of three
Galician towns -- Narajow, Piniaki, and Rykow -- where his
great-grandparents, Oscar STERN and Fradel (SZRENZIL)
STERN, lived.

A search in the JRI-Poland database for Eric's family's records
shows that Narajow is located at coordinates 4932 2446, in the
Tarnopol region. Its current name, >from the JewishGen
ShtetlSeeker
<http://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp>
is Narayev, Ukraine. For more information about the town, see
the JewishGen Communities Database at
<http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsys~shtetm~-1047372>
Unfortunately, the yizkor book for Brzezany, Narajow and vicinity
<http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/berezhany/berezhany.html>
includes many Shoah victims named SHTERN.

The Genealogical Gazetteer of Galicia lists three towns named
Rykow, all in eastern Galicia (now Ukraine). One Rykow was
near Skole, another near Turka, and the third near Zloczew.(now
Zolochiv, Ukraine). The Rykow near Zloczew was the closest to
Narajow. This Rykow is probably now the Polyany (4944/2459,
17 miles NE of Narayev) for which the ShtetlSeeker gives the
alternate name Rykuv.

Piniaki (or Pieniaki) is now Penyaki (4954 2511, 31 miles NE of
Narayev). It's mentioned on one of JewishGen's ShtetLinks
pages for Brody
<http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Brody/sherins_brodyhistory.html>

See the JewishGen SIG Archives at
<http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsys~sigspop>
for past references to Najarow and Pieniaki on the Gesher Galicia
Mailing List and to Polyany on this list.

Eva Dattel Bride and groom #poland

sararu70@...

I have posted the wedding picture of our family member Eva DATTEL, with the
caption of "Do you recognize ", Viewmate 12974. The picture was taken
in the London area between 1939 to 1945. We have no information about the
groom, except that he was a British soldier. It is evident after our many
searches that Eva probably entered the UK with a different name. It may
have been necessary for her to assume this new identity to escape the
Nazis, and travel through many countries in Europe to secure her freedom.

The direct link to this image is:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=12974

Eva may not have followed the Jewish religion for reasons of safety so
perhaps her husband was not Jewish. She may have passed on as she would be
in her late 80s or early 90s at this time. However if anyone does
recognize the picture please contact us. If Eva had any children , they
might be alive and living in the UK or perhaps they moved to another
country.

We would just like to know that they are well and tell them they have
family in the United States if they would like to communicate with us.

If the family did not follow life as Jews, then they probably did not
have much contact with Jewishgen. But, perhaps someone will recognize this
bride.

Any response would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Dear Group

In the Prager Tagblatt of March 15, 1884, I came across the death of Josef DESENSY of Raudnitz.
More DESENSY can be found in the Prague police conscription records and they all seem to be from
Raudnitz.

I wonder if these DESENSY are related to DUSENSY and DUSCHENES >from Prague.

Does anyone know more about these DESENSY?

Thanks for your help.
