No coincidence, Steven.

Perfectly normal to name the next child born following the rebbe's
death after him.

Philly2009 - Banquet Announcement #usa

David Mink

We are delighted to announce that the entertainment for the Philly2009
Banquet will be Yisrael Campbell -- widely regarded as a premiere
standup comedian in Israel -- he's an original and erudite comedian
who has lived in Jerusalem and now lives in New York City. However,
the journey that led Yisrael to The Holy Land began a long time ago
in a place far, far away: he actually was born "Christopher Campbell,"
raised Catholic, and grew up in Philadelphia. For more about Yisrael,
see his website at www.yisraelcampbell.com or check under "program" at
www.philly2009.org

Yisrael will certainly entertain us ---laughing will be a wonderful
way to end the very hectic conference week. We are lucky that he has
agreed to be with us. This is a banquet you will not want to miss!
It will take place on Thursday, August 6.

If you have already registered, and want to add 1 or more banquet
tickets to your registration, please go to the conference website,
www.philly2009.org and click on "Registration Update." You will need
the login and password you received when you registered. Once you are
logged in, click on "optional program" at the left.... you will then
see all the possible optional programs and can select those you want.
You may bring a guest who is not registered for the conference to the
banquet.

If you have not registered, please do so now and sign up for optional
programs while there is still space. You may check on-site to see if
any tickets are still available for different optional programs ( but
you may not be able to obtain what you want if they are all gone).

See you there!

Rabbi Shmuel Amdurer #rabbinic

panthersfan27@...

Hi,

My cousin and I have been discussing our ancestral line of late since
the original information I had has come into doubt (that we descend
>from Rabbi Samuel ben Rav Chaim Cheikel, Admorim of Amdur). It appears,
pretty conclusively, that we descend >from The Gaon of Minsk, Chief
Rabbi of Minsk and the Upper District, Rabbi Shmuel Amdurer. My cousin
knows his ancestry quite well (Rabbi Shmuel Amdurer is the son of Rabbi
Yosef Amdurer, the son of Rabbi Shmuel Feivish who wrote "Beit Shmuel,"
the son of Rabbi Or-shraga Feivish, the son of Yehuda-Leib of
Voroslav...Shmuel Feivish was the son-in-law of Rabbi Arie Leib ben R.
Ephraim Fischel, who was the descendant of the MaHaRaSHaL and the Rema
(Moses Isserlish).

Now the question that we both have is how our family fits. We know that
our LCA Joseph Amdur(sky or er) was born on the 20th of October, 1837
in Mogilev to Shmuel and Rachel (Rokhilia). Shmuel was the son of
Mendel and Rachel was the daughter of Yosef. Mendel was the son of the
Gaon of Minsk >from what we know in the Hebrew source records...But what
is troublesome is the fact that it appears my g-g-g grandfather
Menachem Mendel David Amdur, the son of Joseph Amdursky, was born as
early as when Joseph was 13 and no later than Joseph's 15th birthday
because my g-g-grandfather, Morris Amdur, was born between 1866-1870
(we don't know for sure at this time). We are looking for help in how
this could be possible because it appears he is several years senior to
the rest of his siblings. Another troubling fact is the fact that we
can't figure out why the family would have gone back to Mogilev since
it appears they left for Jerusalem in 1841 but my line of the family is
all clearly born in Mogilev and the youngest brother (Harry Hersche
Amdursky) was born between 1872 and 1877 in Mogilev, while the rest of
the siblings all seem to have been born in Jerusalem!

We appreciate any help you may be able to give us.

Best,

Michael Waas

The name does not seem to fit common first names. Is this like Felix?
I don't think this is a common Polish name either. Any suggestions?
Perhaps this name is familiar to the List?

ViewMate - Eva DATTEL Bride and groom #germany

Sara <sararu70@...>

I have posted the wedding picture of our family member Eva DATTEL, with the
caption of "Do you recognize ", Viewmate 12974. The picture was taken
in the London area between 1939 to 1945. We have no information about the
groom, except that he was a British soldier. It is evident after our many
searches that Eva probably entered the UK with a different name. It may
have been necessary for her to assume this new identity to escape the Nazis
and travel through many countries in Europe to secure her freedom.

Eva may not have followed the Jewish religion for reasons of safety so
perhaps her husband was not Jewish. She may have passed on as she would be
in her late 80s or early 90s at this time. However if anyone does
recognize the picture please contact us. If Eva had any children , they
might be alive and living in the UK or perhaps they moved to another
country.

We would just like to know that they are well and tell them they have
family in the United States if they would like to communicate with us.

If the family did not follow life as Jews, then they probably did not
have much contact with Jewishgen. But, perhaps someone will recognize this
bride. Any response would be greatly appreciated [Private E-mail please].

Thank you, Sara Rubin New Kensington, Pennsylvania sararu70@...

Looking for Asatinsky/Usatinsky #ukraine

I am looking for ASATINSKY or USATINSKY >from Dniepropetrovsk or
Ekaterinaslav. My husband's GF was Hershel (Harry in the U.S.)
ASATINSKY and he had a brother, Aaron. I don't know anything else
about siblings, but Hershel and his wife Pauline (don't know what
her first name was in Europe - last name was Feinstein), came to
the U.S. with their children May, Betty, Kay, Esther, and Louis.
A family named Portnoy helped them to come to the states. Their
last child, Ruth (my mother-in-law), was born in Detroit, MI.

Any leads would be much appreciated. We have no information and
all of the children born in Europe are deceased.
