mysterious siblings

Lin Herz
Hi GerSIG Friends,
I have recently found evidence proving there were 3 heretofore unknown siblings of my grandfather who were born in Markt Berolzheim, Bavaria, in the late 1800s. I am trying to find the birth and death certificates of one of the children, Sofi LEVI, born probably around 1890 to Mathilde LEVI geb. HERZ and Leopold LEVI, and the death certificate of her brother, Isidor LEVI, who was born in 1893. They and another previously known sibling, Leo LEVI born in 1898 were never mentioned to my mother, born in 1925 by her father or any of his siblings. Isidor and Sofi appear on a list of Levi children >from Markt Berolzheim sent to the Jewish orphanage in Fuerth in 1901 when their mother, my great grandmother, died. Leo and Sofi also appear in a list my grandfather made in 1926 of family members buried in the nearby Jewish cemetery in Treuchtlingen. However, Sofi's birth and death certificates are not in the registry office in Meinheim where the volunteer archivist of Markt Berolzheim found Leo's birth and death certificates for me recently. The children could have died while living at the orphanage in Fuerth. It's just strange they were never spoken of. And if two died at the orphanage, it would seem that would have been a topic of discussion. I'm not sure how long my grandfather was at the orphanage. My mom was under the impression that they chose that one because of the excellent Jewish school in the area. (My grandfather rejoined his family but I'm not sure in what year, and came home for visits. ) Sincerely, Lin Herz Palm Bay, Florida researching HERZ >from Markt Berolzheim; HERZ -Nuembrecht; Buehler - Kleinerdlingen, Noerdlingen; ADLER- Markelsheim, Eberstadt; HUMBERG - Klein Reken; SCHWARZ - Raesfeld; REINHEIMER- Beerfelden, Georgensmuend; SIMON- Beerfelden; KAUFMANN- Eberstadt: SELIGMANN- Crailsheim, Schwabish Hall; SCHWEIZER- Dernau, Waldorf, LEVI- Waldorf; ROTHSCHILD- Eberstadt, Davenport, Iowa, Chicago AUFFHAUSER- Ichenhausen, Markt Berolzheim; SCHOENWALTER- Berolzheim;

JewishGen's NY Genealogy Course starts June 14
#belarus
Nancy Siegel
So many of our immigrant ancestors lived in New York City -- they
started on the Lower East Side and upgraded to the Bronx and Brooklyn; their children moved to Queens, Westchester, Long Island and New Jersey. We have census reports >from Ancestry and vital records from ItalianGen, but this class will focus on the more esoteric documents our ancestors generated, including probate, landsmanshaften, voter registration, newspapers, and court case records. This is an intermediate level genealogy course with eight text lessons you can download; there are no specific times for the course as students are international. Students will select a branch to research and receive daily advice and suggestions >from the instructor through a 24/7 Forum, in a query and answer format. Students must feel comfortable browsing the web and downloading files, have 8-10 hours available each week, and should select one NYC family where census and vital records are already documented. Tuition is $150; registration is open at: https://www.jewishgen.org/education/description.asp?course=40135 For questions, please email the instructor: Phyllis Kramer, JewishGen's VP of Education, born and bred in NYC; she will lead you through it. phylliskramer1@gmail.com Nancy Siegel (San Francisco, CA, USA) Communications Coordinator JewishGen.org

Yizkor Book Project, May 2019
#galicia
Lance Ackerfeld <lance.ackerfeld@...>
Shalom,
I will start off by noting that this will probably be my last Yizkor Book monthly report. I will be shortly stepping down as Yizkor Book Project Manager and my place will be taken over by Binny Lewis. Having being involved in this project >from around 1999 and leading it >from 2009, it would seem the time is ripe for me to allow someone with new ideas and energy to take on the project. In the meantime, I will still be around to help Binny acclimatize to the tasks involved. I would sincerely like to thank each and every person who has contributed in some way to the continued success of the Yizkor Book Project. I am perpetually in awe of the willingness of people to devote their time and energy to help out in some way to move the various projects along. I am quite sure that Binny will continue to receive the same level of support and dedication which will enable the project to further grow and develop. As a parting "gift", I am pleased to let you know that the complete translation of the Wyzkow, Poland Yizkor book is now online. Our grateful thanks go out to Howard Orenstein who has led this project from its outset and has untiringly followed through with this projectto its ultimate goal. Other than that, I would like to note that a number of new Translation Projects have recently been setup for the books of the following communities: - Augustow, Poland - Skalat, Ukraine - Zinkiv, Ukraine The support we need to see these books translated is, naturally, financial and if you are able to assist in that direction with any amount, please make your donation on our JewishGen-erosity page (link below) to the project you wish to support. Now, before letting you know about the updates and additions, I do wish you and your families a Shavuot Sameach or a Happy Shavuot. ViewMate Translation Request re: marriage certificate of the late Friedrich LICHTENSTEIN & Sussana RAUSCHER - German
#general
Dave Lichtenstein
Hello Everybody
I've posted a vital record in German for which I need a translation. It is available on ViewMate at the following address... http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM73424 This I believe is the original marriage record between my paternal Grandfather Friedrich LICHTENSTEIN and my paternal Grandmother Sussana RAUSCHER which occurred in the little Rhineland town of Voerde in Germany about a century ago. Prior to that all I had was a reconstituted Nazi-era marriage certificate in which my Grandfather had to take on the middle name of Israel. Any way I am interested in all the information which appears in this record, including the marginal notes. Most importantly I would like to know whereabouts in Voerde the marriage ceremony occurred. I suspect that because the two of them were of mixed faiths at the time (my Grandmother only converting to Judaism later on) that marriage ceremony may have occurred in a civil registry office. I will be travelling to Germany soon, including Voerde, and would like to find the actual location in Voerder where that ceremony took place. Thank you very much.
