We are trying to locate information on my mother-in law's brother
Pierre (Anselm) HIRSCH who arrived in the US >from France on August 21,
1947 and returned to Paris a few years later. The last contact we
have >from him was in the early 1960s. There has been no further
contact. He was born Anselm HIRSCH in Frankfurt in 1923 to Camilla
WERTHEIMER and Jacob HIRSCH. The family moved to France in late 1933
and settled in Paris until 1940 when the family moved frequently
throughout France to keep ahead of the Nazis. They used the name
lAMBERT during the war years and Anselm became Pierre. We have tried
to obtain information over the years to no avail but, perhaps new
materials may be available to tell us what happened to him.Merci,
Thank you in advance.

Hi all,
I was at the conference (still recuperating >from all the activity!) and
heard mention of a BOF ( Birds of a Feather) group for Harbin, China.

I dug around JewishGen but didn't see anything about BOFs.Can someone tell me how
to find it and how to join? Or do they just get together at conferences?

(US) Be Aware of Scam In Ordering Vital Records #general

Jan Meisels Allen

The Sioux City, Iowa recorder's office is warning about scams for people
applying for certified vital records-this is not unique to Sioux City. They
warn about websites promising certified copies of vital records from
non-authorized sites promising vital records and get your personal
information, credit card number and money. In Iowa, certified copies may
only be obtained >from a county recorder's office or through VitalCheck an
online service that is the state's only authorized third-party vendor. They
also warn that anyone charging for an application should be wary as it is
free on the recorder's site. While this is about an Iowa recorder office,
the free application form on a recorder's site is true for all jurisdictions
in the United States. There will be a fee for the record, but not the form.

Ed. Note: Vital Check is also the authorized third party-vendor for most if
not all US recorders office. Their link in usually on the recorder's site.

I get a daily digest, and when I open a discussion I see all the notes arranged in chronological order, which means that I have to scroll through all the old notes before I see the new ones. Is that by design? Is there some kind of configuration setting I can change?
I agree - especially when many have commented on a topic (like this one, “Trial”) it takes a long time to find the most recent reply. In addition, Hank’s message was embedded in a long list of replies on matters that had strayed from the original topic heading.

IAJGS Lifetime Achivement Award to GerSIG co-founder Karen Franklin #germany

JewishGen German Research Division Coordinator

Gersig co-founder Karen S. Franklin was presented with the IAJGS
Lifetime Achievement Award last week at the Cleveland Conference.

A list of Karen's contributions to Jewish genealogy would excede the
length restrictions of this Email forum.
I hope that IAJGS and / or JewishGen make this information and
information about other award recipients available soon.
Karen has been an officer of both organizations.
