US military marriage Nathanson Goldenberg in 1944 Cairo
#records
Jeff at SG
Nat Nathanson was an active duty US officer stationed in Cairo when he met and in 1944 married Eva Goldenberg who was born and raised in Cairo. I assume the US military must have some record of that marriage and perhaps whatever investigation they undertook prior to giving permission for the marriage. Where would I find US military records about that marriage?

Re: Help = Ancestry DNA .. is it worth looking below 2nd Cousin if no proof in trees or known relatives?

I have had a lot of difficulty identifying matches, regardless of site. That said, I do a surname search on my match list and go through all the surnames that I know are in the family - especially husband's of cousins surnames. I have had more luck with distant cousins + surnames and trees than I have had with 3rd cousins and no trees or just a couple of people. BTW I have one first cousin on Ancestry and NO second cousins, so I drop immediately to third to fourth. A couple of people I recognized, but I have some fairly extensive tree depending on the line.

Neal, put your request on the "Roots" page of the Jewish Telegraph at http://www.jewishtelegraph.com/manchester/ I believe that a request would be a "Free" entry on the page. The Roots page is near the bottom of the Right Hand Column.

Ancestral town of Lyantskoran/Zarechanka
#ukraine
jodygenealogy@...
The town of Lyantskoran (name before WW1) is listed for my grandparents on a passenger manifest. It is called Zarechanka today and is in Ukraine. Does anyone have family from there or know where I can obtain more information about it? It is not too far from Kamenets Podolsky, so should I assume records are there (lost in the fire)? It is a tiny village, and would love to connect with others with family from there. Jody Shaw

My Manchester cousin who is in her 80's has in the past told me about a well known Jewish midwife in Manchester called Dora Black who operated in about the 1920's and may have delivered family members. So there was a Jewish Black family. Whether your person was related to Dora Black would be hard to tell. But apparently she delivered very many Jewish babies and was a legend in her own lifetime. The Manchester branch of the JGSGB would probably know.

It's only a guess, but I recall hearing from early genealogist Shmuel Gorr that he was related to Israeli judge Shimon Agranat who headed the "Agranat Commission" which investigated the Yom Kipppur War. Shmuel said that the 'g' in Agranat was the Russian replacement for an 'h' which doesn't exist in Russian, and the name meant that they were kohanim - descendants of Aharon. If that fits your family you might consider it.

Request for Information - Black family, Manchester 1940s - 1970s Inbox

Neil Fraser
I'm searching for information on a Jewish gentleman who went by the name of Black in the Manchester area in the period 1940s - 1970s. He was in the tailoring business and in the 1950s was the partner of Gertrude Parkin. Gertrude was born Gertrude Condon in Salford in 1903 and married George Henry Parkin in Selford in 1923. Gertrude and George had three children before the marriage broke down. Gertrude changed her name legally to Black in the early 1950s. There is no record of a marriage between Gertrude and Mr. Black. It is possible that Black was an Anglicised form of a Jewish name such as Bloch. It is not known when or where Mr. Black was born but it is thought he was older than Gertrude. Gertrude and Mr. Black lived in the Salford area of Manchester. Gertrude also worked in the tailoring industry which is probably how the couple met. Mr. Back was relatively wealthy and is known to have bought expensive gifts for Gertrude including a fur coat. The couple did not produce any children. Mr Black died in the early 1970s before Gertrude. I can find no record of Mr. Black's death or burial which further leads me to believe that Black was not his official name. He left Gertrude a considerable legacy. Gertrude died under the name Gertrude Black in 1987 at Prestwich. Any information on Mr Black, or of the couple, or suggestions on sources of information would be greatly appreciated. The information is requested by Pat Allsopp, a great-niece of Gertrude who now lives in Salamander Bay, New South Wales. Posted by Neil Fraser, on behalf of Pat Allsopp. Neil Fraser

It's probably a misreading of Cedar Park Cemetery, in Paramus, New Jersey. It should be easy to find out: just call their office (https://www.cedarparkbethelcemeteries.com). An alternative to googling for cemeteries is the JGS (NY)'s Directory of Regional Cemeteries, at Renee Eric Ellman <eellman@...> wrote:

Have you contacted the Munich City Archives? They will have listings in the residents register (Mlderegister) before and after the USA episode. This entries should also mention wife and children. Also, they should have the marriage record if it was before 1960.

Friends,
A distant relative, Simon Stock (1872 - Aug. 7, 1947), died in the Bronx (certificate 7885). Information sought on GIMPEL Leopold & Janette
#germany
Shulamit
Leopold GIMPEL, born 5. October 1900 in Lemberg/L’wow, died 13. February 1970 in Munich. He was a victim of the fire attack on the Jewish Old Age Home in Munich. His wife Jeanette GIMPEL survived the terror attack. We know that after the war Leopold and his wife are listed as residing in Munich. On a list from Bad Arolsen we found that they left Munich for USA. Address given, 975 N Delaware Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. They arrived in NY on the General RM Blatchford in 1951. We also know that both GIMPEL returned to Munich in about 1965. Questions: Where did LEOPOLD GIMPEL survive the war? When did he marry Jeanette? Where did they get married? What was Jeanette’s maiden name? Are there any children from this marriage? From Leopold age it is possible that he had been married before the war and that he and Jeanette were survivors who got married after the war. I am grateful for any information. last question aabout my dad's maternal mother, father and before them - siblings too.
#usa
bonniemdj@...
I do know thanks to the volunteers in this group, that my dad's mother's mother's name was Asna Popensky, and her father's name was Velvel-or Weivel or William in English. mollie was 22 when she married Samuel Lieberman/Lokiec/Liberman in 1908, making her birth year 1886.. Asna, or Anna had at least 2 children other than Mollie- Isadore who married Rebecca?? and I remember they lived in Brooklyn in the 1960's and Benjamin who lived in the Bronx in the early 1960's. Mollie passed away, however in 1937. is it possible, that there is no more information?
Many thanks again. Bonnie Lieberman
