Siedlce Yiskor Book
#general
David Mink <daminker@...>
The Sefer Yizkor le-Kehilot Shedlets (Memorial Book of the Community of Siedlce) is
the most extensive compilation of the Siedlce community of Poland before WWII. Published in Yiddish and Hebrew, in Buenos Aires, 1956, the book reconstructs the social, political, and religious fabric in this city of 15,000 Jews. The chapters were written by the citizens and survivors of the city. They paint a thorough picture of life there. Translating this book will open up this vital resource beyond the Yiddish speaking community, and it will serve as a vital tool for academics as well as genealogists. This translation project is facilitated by JewishGen.org. They have overseen the translation of many such books and avail the translations on their website. The cost of translating this book has been set at $5000.00. We have raised $2000.00 so far. Can you contribute $18.00 or $36.00 to insure that this work gets completed? Here is the link for the book; https://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/Siedlce1/Siedlce1.html Here is the link to contribute; https://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/projectdesc/YB David Mink dmink08@gmail.com

Warsaw Poland Geneology Search
#general
Sandy Calire <slcalire@...>
Would anyone kindly be able to provide some advice?
My Grandfather was born in Otwock, Poland in 1914 and my Grandparents were found on the 1948 Warsaw Jews WWII survivors list. The United States Holocaust Museum found a document that provided their parents names. I would like to find out more about my Jewish ancestors, great-grandparents. This week I was invited to a convention in Warsaw, Poland, August 5-13, 2019. It will be my first trip to Europe and Poland. If I wanted to research additional information about my ancestors, what would be the best way to approach this? I have not found anything additional with the www.ancestry.com, familysearch.com, jewishgen databases etc. The surnames are Rosenberg, Wasserstrum & Domb. Can you recommend any services while I would be in Poland? Or advice as to how to pursue additional research? Thank you in advance for any help or direction you may be able to provide. Respectfully, Sandy Calire slcalire@gmail.com

Dear Genners,
As a project coordinator for several Yiskor books, please take time to read about your shtetl and those in the surrounding region. YOu might be very surprised to find information regarding family and relations which you can't obtain just by looking for archival dates! Remember, broaden your search, one member could be in 1 shtetl, some in another. UNderstanding the history of the First World War, which created a lot of movement, might also shed light to your research. the shtetl you were so focused on, suddenly, shifts to another shtetl. I hope this is helpful and I am always looking for more translators or donations to whichever YB that interests you Best Anita Frishman Gabbay

Yonatan Ben-Ari
My great greatgrandmother , Gittle ABRAMOWITZ , immigrated >from Eastern Europe via
Liverpool in the second half of the 19th cent. She was a widow with 4 young children. In some source, which I don't remember today I read that she remarried a LAZAROFF in New Haven. She seems also to have been a silversmith or some similar profession. On this forum I learned several years ago that there was (is) a LAZAROFF family in New Haven who were(are) Jewellers. Are thereany New Haven LAZAROFFs on this forum who know there family history who can confirm the above story regarding my ancestress's marriage into their family? Yoni Ben-Ari, Jerusalem
