GRADNER from BIALYSTOK #lithuania

Roy Star

I am researching the GRADNER family.
Originally >from Bialystok, the family moved to London around 1880.

They then emigrated to Cape Town, South Africa in 1896.

All of the information I have on the GRADNER'S are >from their important role
in Cape Town, and when they lived with the GERSHCOWIT(Z)family in London
(their cousins).

The furthest back I can go is with MORRIS EMMANUEL GRADNER (1858-1905).
One of his sons LOUIS GRADNER (1882-1955) became Mayor of Cape Town in 1933.
Louis' son WALTER GRADNER also became Mayor of Cape Town in 1965.

I have full details of the entire family on my Ancestry tree and blog - but
I cannot find anything on the known GRADNER family back in Bialystok, or
anywhere else in Lithuania/Poland/Russia! Unless I am missing something,
I have gone through the few entries available on Ancestry, All Galicia
and Jewish Gen.

I have come to the conclusion they must have changed their family name, but
I still cannot find anything similar so perhaps the change was completely
different!

Any suggestions >from anyone?

You can reply direct if you wish : roystar20@yahoo.co.uk

Many thanks.

DAN/DEN/DUNN Family #general

Sheldon Dan <sheldan1955@...>

During the last several months, I have been preserving the archives of my
family's genealogist, Walter Cohen. Walter was a significant personality in
our family--after his retirement, he began a project to research his family's
roots, which originated in Lithuania primarily near the towns of Taurage and
Upynas. He was wildly successful, and the result was seven family reunions
over a twenty-year period, known as the Dan/Den/Dunn family reunions, which
drew family members >from across the country and around the world (Israel,
England, Australia).

Walter passed away in 2009, and I had been trying to add more details to the
family history. Last year, I acquired the original records Walter had been
keeping >from his nephew and took them to my home, where I scanned the documents
which illustrated Walter's search the most. This included letters, pictures,
and memorabilia >from the family reunions.

I have updated the family roster and am currently updating the family history.
The last version of the family history was >from the 2000 family reunion and
many of the branches of the family were only in fragmented form. I have been
able to add many details and information regarding the various branches of the
family history and am close to completing it.

I would like the descendants of these ancestors to contact me if they have not
already. I maintain an e-mail list of all those whose e-mails I have obtained
and am keeping them informed of the progress of my project.

Florence Marmor 1933 - 2018 #general

David Lewin

It is with great sadness that I have just learned of the passing of
Florence Marmor last Sunday.

It has been such a pleasure having her as a friend for many years and
watching her dedication to Jewish genealogy and especially to
preserving the records associated with the New York Jewish cemeteries
with special emphasis on Mokkom Sholom.

We wish her children Rosanne and Ralph and her family and friends
long life. Florence will be remembered with much love by her genealogy friends.

1907’ Duma Voters Lists vs 1912’ #belarus

Shlomo Gurevich

Comparing recently obtained Mogilev gubernia=E2=80=99s 1907' Duma Voters Lists
1912, I found out that the both of them contain approximately the same
number of records and the same level of representation of Jewish population.

On the other hand, though the time interval between them is relatively small,
substantial number of names is present on one of them and absent on the
other. In some cases there is difference in details such as spelling, a
second name, a patronym, place of residence, property value, etc. I luckily
discovered the patronym of my Great Grandfather Girsh Wolfson >from Monastyrshchina
which was not present on 1912 lists.

The full article as well as both 1907' and 1912' lists of Chislavichi Jewish
