Tel-Aviv telephone look-up needed please #general

Monica Talmor

I need someone with a Tel-Aviv/Yaffo telephone book to look up one name,
I was not able to find it on line even though I'm sure this person lives in Yaffo.
I don't need anyone to call, I'll do that, I just need the phone number.

Many thanks,

Monica Talmor

HABER - Syria > U.S.A..(New York > Texas) #general

Yehudh bn Shlmo

Boker Tov,

I am looking in the 1920 and 1930 Census for
Sion/Zion HABER. His WWI Draft registration lists his
birth as June 1887 in Syria. According to his son's
obit, he was married to Nida, and had children
Miriam(Mary), Maurice and Samuel. Sam was born in New
York, U.S.A., in 1917. Sion died in 1982 in Laredo,
Tx. It appears the family had been there for some
time.

I have tried all combinations to find Sion with his
wife and at least Sam, since he was just born, in the
1920 and 1930 Census. I have looked at every Sion and
Zion in the U.S.A. and also every Sam* H(a|e|o)B* in
the U.S.A. Also all Sam* born 1917 +-2 with either
parent >from Syria. The same with Maurice and Mer*,
Mar*.

His draft card is very hard to read, but I believe
the address was 118 or 188 Ludlow, NY City.
Although he worked in Brooklyn, I could only find
Ludlow in Manhattan and a Ludlow Ave in the Bronx. I
have already checked out Ludlow for 1920 in Manhattan
and working on the Bronx now. But my feeling is that
they had already gone to Texas by then.

I am new to Sephardic naming conventions. Is it
possibly there is an alternate Surname to HABER that I
can search on? I am waiting for information >from the
grandchildren to verify this, but his mother's surname
should have been JOHANNA or LEVI. At this point I am
only trying to find them in the 1920 and 1930 Census.
I am not trying to locate his Ancestors or
Descendants.

Shalom, shalom,
Yehudah ben Shlomo

JOHANNA / LEVI marriage - Syria and Tunisia #general

Shalom fellow researchers,

I am looking for the "ancestors" of Sha(h)adi (Nusan)
JOHANNA. He was born to Shalim JOHANNA and Jamela LEVI
abt. 1892 in Damascus Syria. Shalim/Shalam's father
was Sha(h)adi JOHANNA born in Tunisia.

Sha(h)adi JOHANNA's siblings were Hyim b. 1893,
Hesney, Nissim, Rachael (Kehile), David (Daoar) and
Betty (Bahie). Shalim died in Damascus in 1917. Most
of the family including Shaadi immigrated to America
by 1920. And I am familiar with the information from
that point in time. But I know nothing of Sha(h)adi's
father or mother's family, or other siblings that
remained in Syria. Sion Haber was a cousin of Shaadi
who also came to the U.S.

A town in Belarus? ViewMate 8848 #belarus

paulkozo@...

I'd be grateful if anyone can recognise the name of the town on this US 1917
draft card for Abraham E SADUR of Passaic NJ. The subject's brothers
claim to have been born in Svir - and another close relative came >from Smorgon.
So there's a good chance that it is in Belarus.

More about Simon Salomon #germany

אלי סמסון <samsonf@...>

Dear Gersigers,
Yesterday I asked for information about Walter SALOMON, born 1904 in Germany.
Today.about Simon SALOMON. His father Levy SALOMON started a clothes and textile shop in
Speicher (near Wittlich and Bitburg). His mother was Sara DUBLON >from the large and famous Dublon clan
of Wittlich which has an Internet site, and has hundreds of DUBLONs and their family tree.
Levy and Sara had Simon and two more sons - Siegmund (my grandfather) and David - both of them are
buried in Speicher' however their children and grandchildren left in time and live now with their large
families in Israel.
Simon SALOMON, born in Speicher 1873 became a well known author, writer, journalist and publisher.
He was murdered by the Nazis in Teresienstadt in 1943. Now the regional and local authorities of Speicher
decided to give the Realschule of Speicher the name of their famous Jewish citizen.
They asked Rafael Jacob and myself, the grandnephews of Simon, both of us living in Israel, for
permission to use the name and, this granted, invited us to participate at the ceremony and
spend a few days in Speicher and vicinity.
One day we spent in Wittlich and I said Kadish at the graves of my Great-grandparents
Sara and Levy SALOMON-more than 100 years after their death! The Naming Ceremony on October 27 was
a very impressive and festive event, with speeches by the Head of the Regional Council (of 270 villages),
the head of the local council, the representatives of the regional and local educational institutions,
the main religions, including the representative of the nearest Jewish community of Trier,
and Rafael and myself - the remaining relatives of Simon. All of them expressed their
commitment to remember Simon's German Patriotism as it was expressed in all his works and
never to forget that he was also a remarkable Jew and that only therefore he was killed in the dark
period of the Nazis. At the end of the ceremony the proud new name SIMON SALOMON REALSCHULE, SPEICHER was
uncovered.
Only during this visit did I learn that one of the sons of Simon SALOMON, Walter, succeeded in leaving to the U.S.A.
Now I ask you to help me to find him or his children and grandchildren.
thanks,
Eli Samson

Immigration details? #poland

George Mason <gmason3815@...>

I hope someone on the List can help me. I recently obtainied a copy of my
father's passenger manifest. He was Jewish, born in Warsaw, and immigrated
to the US >from the port of Southampton in February of 1939. Now, I
understand that it was not easy for a Jew to immigrate anywhere in 1939, so
I am interested to learn how my father may have been able to accomplish
this.

On the manifest, in Section 12, which is described as "Immigration
Visa, Passport Visa, or Reentry Permit Number (Prefix number with QIV, NQIV,
PV or NP and give section of Act involved)", for my father, it says, "Sec. 5
QIV 2802". Can anyone tell me what the details of this section might be that
allowed my father to come to America just 7 months before Germany attacked
Poland?

Thanks in advance for any help,
