Yiddish translation and photo identification please

Jenny Schwartzberg
Dear Genners,
I have just discovered a photo of unknown cousins dated 1933, Warsaw. If you could take a look at the front and back as shown in these two links, and tell me what the Yiddish says I would be most grateful. Also, if anyone recognizes them I would be absolutely delighted. My suspicion is that they are members of the SZWARCBERG or FELDMAN / LEWIN families >from Gniewoszow, Kozienice district, Radom Province, Poland, who had moved to Warsaw. My great-grandmother was receiving letters >from Poland up to WWII. My father thinks they are more likely to be members of the KAPLAN or KAMENETZKY or TELECHANSKY families of Antopol and Motol, Grodno gubernia, Russia then Poland then Belarus. Here are the links: http://leep.lis.uiuc.edu/publish/sschwar4/UnknownCousins.jpg and http://leep.lis.uiuc.edu/publish/sschwar4/UnknownCousinsYiddishonback.jpg Thank you all so much for your help! Note, 4th Sunday of Month Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center 2nd Floor Sr. Activity Room 4126 Executive Drive in La Jolla Using the Internet to Find Anyone & Anything by nationally known scholar Ron Arons, author of The Jews of Sing-Sing. The Internet has so many vast resources, which can be used in a variety of ways. One only needs a bit of creativity to find the treasures, which will help with the family research process. This is not just a theoretical lecture or simply a listing of websites. Many examples will be provided to show how anyone's family research process can be enhanced. He is a seasoned genealogist having traced his roots to England, Poland, Romania, the Ukraine, Belarus, and Lithuania. A member of the board of the San Francisco Jewish Genealogical Society, he has given presentations locally and abroad, including the two past IAJGS annual conferences in London and Toronto. A special thanks to JewishGen for providing the infrastructure which makes the online presentation possible. As I have said before, this is a team effort: there is no way we could operate without all these important elements working together. We hope that you, our readers find this material useful. You may show your appreciation by making a donation to JewishGen and to yizkor book projects at http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/v_projectslist.asp?project_cat=23. Parts of my problem are the same as Beryl's. My paternal great grandfather
arrived in the UK with his wife and four small children, having lost at least two children in Krakow, Empire of Austria. The youngest child died at the age of 13 months in London in January 1889 and my great grandmother died in childbirth the following October at the age of 36. The baby also died. The next appearance of my great grandfather with his three remaining children was in 1891 in Gateshead, Northern England, with a new wife, Shawe Siegel, widow with two children. I have no idea why or how the move was made >from London to Gateshead and then to Newcastle or whether the marriage was arranged. If so, by whom? The names of my great grandparents were Israel and Miriam Trinkenreich (later Levy). Miriam was buried in West Ham Cemetery and Israel and Shawe in Newcastle. Re: Brit milah records Teheran Iran

Schelly Talalay Dardashti
Dear Sarina,
Good luck! There are no brit milah records in Teheran. In fact, until just a few years ago, Rabbi David Shofet in Los Angeles didn't even keep a register himself even though I strongly recommended to him that these were valuable genealogical records and he said he would. But I don't know if David ever followed up on my suggestion. While in Teheran, pre-Revolution, most brits were performed by David's father, [Chief Rabbi of Iran]Hakham Yedidiah Shofet, that was only Teheran. The Chief Rabbi's office wasn't even established at that time 1923-24, and the "official record gathering" didn't even began until Hakahm Yedidiah was appointed by the government as Chief Rabbi (1940s maybe) and he was required to keep such records. Marriage and divorce records >from the Hakham's time are in the Chief Rabbi's office in Teheran. There is no index, no finding aid, no microfilms, no copies. To get information, and that is nearly impossible, one needs to know all the information (names and dates) beforehand. Generally, if one knows all that, you don't need those records. Records are merely listed in chrono order. Why does he need a brit milah record >from 1923-24? With best wishes, Schelly Talalay Dardashti dardasht1@yahoo.com
