I was amused by the "fullness of time" phrase...in the New Testament text
it's allusion to the apocalyptic events of the first Christmas, and speaks
of the most opportune moment in one or two millenia. So that's plenty of

available after 100 years. The next census to be released will be the
1911
census which will be made publicly available in January 2012.

However, as >from 17 January 2007 you will be able to apply for information
>from this census under the Freedom of Information Act. You will only be
able to apply if you know the address at the time of the census. The cost
will be 45 pounds per household address.

This is as a result of a decision by the UK Information Commissioner in
response to a complaint under the UK Freedom of Information Act.

The webpage makes clear the following:

(i) you need to know the exact address (as suggested above) including the
house number or house name, street, town and county
(ii) only part of the entry for the address requested can be supplied - not
the whole entry
(iii) some sensitive information (eg on infirmity) will be restricted and
will be redacted in the copy supplied - the full information will be
available in 2012

Of late there has been a seperate discussions about
the Galveston Plan, Sephardic Jews in Poland and a
missing second page for a manifest. This prompted me
to again try and research a family member Celia
HORN/GORN >from Poland whose background was unknown to
me other than what was in the Census reports. Also, I
have been researching Sephardic roots and found that
all the families I found that came to America, married
back into Sephardic families except for one marriage
which was to Celia HORN/GORN. Also what sparked a new
search was that I found that the last birth
certificate of Celia's children, she listed her last
name as HORAN instead of HORN. So I started looking
for (G|H)+O+R+(A|E)+N and finally found the manifest.

Celia's father Ei Gorn came into Galveston in 1913,
and was listed as Elja/Elga HORN. I recently found
Celia listed as ZIWJA/LIWJA GOREN who came into
Galveston in 1914. Age and immigration date match the
Census reports (amazing!). Ela listed his closest
relative as his wife Ester Horn, in Celia's case she
listed her mother as Ester Goren, both >from Lublin
Poland. They both came to the same city, and Celia
came to her father.

Now for the questions:

1) Only part of the manifest is available for both Ela
and Celia in the well known pay for database. I know
this because the text entry on this database lists the
person they are going to see, and the Texas Museum
Seaport database lists the city they were going to.
And this was not on the page that was viewable. Nor on
the page before or after this. So is there a person
out there who could find this second page for me and
see what other information is there? If so, please
contact me and I can give you detailed information on
the two manifests.

2) Were there Sephardic Jews in Poland in the early
1900s with the name GOREN? I have seen the name HORAN
on a list of Sephardic names, but not for Poland.

3) I have never found an entry in the Poland database
for Celia's birth. It should have been in 1899 or 1900
in Lublin Poland. Her parents were Ela GORN and Estera
Ruchla BRAFMAN/BRYFMAN. I have found records for her
parents marriage and of their parents marriages. And
even a record for Celia's brother David for 1898, but
nothing for the name Celia, Cywiia (her grandmother),
ZIWJA, or anything like it, with a parent of either
Ela or Estera. Any help finding this entry would be
appreciated.

passenger lists. I have been trying to find Morris (born 1870) or Lottie
Titner (born 1873, nee RABINOWITZ) who, according to the census, immigrated
to Minnesota through Wisconsin in 1891 >from Russia.

They had several children (Max, Louis, Charles, Dorothy, Harry and Samuel),
all born in either Wisconsin or Minnesota. In the 1900 census, Morris was
listed as Marsh LETTNER and his wife Fate. (an obvious error on the
transcriber's part). Morris died in Wisconsin in 1906 and is buried in
Hebrew Cemetery in Superior, Wisconsin under the name of Mendol Tetenier.
Lottie died in Minnesota in 1960 and is buried in Minneapolis.

I suspect that there was a name change or error in transcription in a
manifest but have been unable to locate either one. I have tried
variations on spelling for first and last names but as yet have been
unsuccessful.

In the early census data, they are both listed as having been born in Russia.
In the 1930's census and on her death certificate, Lottie is listed as
having come >from Roumania.

If anyone has any ideas as to alternative spellings or how to narrow the
search down, I would appreciate it. I have tried several already as well
as first names only.

Morris's occupation in the 1900 census was listed as a Junket. I have been
unable to find any occupation like that and would appreciate it if anyone
has any idea of what a Junket would do.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Also, in the 1900 Minnesota
census, Morris's citizenship was pending. How can I find out if he ever
got citizenship?

principal transcriber and database manager of the thousands of records that
have recently been donated to the Society. Hence it was not done as a
Moderator Note.

It certainly will not be years but it is likely to be months before the
extracts of the Bevis Marks Ketubot are transcribed and put on line. As I
am sure you are all aware, transcription of the Sephardi names is no simple
task, and decisions have to be made in conjunction with the Bevis Marks
archivist as to the way a surname is shown. They also have to take their
place in the queue of datasets waiting to be transcribed.

Probably the best thing for those that cannot wait is to find a library that
has copies of the six Bevis Marks Records Books or to purchase the books
either individually or as a set >from the Spanish and Portuguese Jews'
Congregation whose office is at 2, Ashworth Road, London W.9. I have no
financial interest in the sale of these books.

If you are a member of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain the
volumes are available in our library.
