In reply to your question about the Pardo family I can tell you the following: According to several sources, among which the publication by Michel Studemund Halevy "Biographisches Lexikon der Hamburger Sefarden" page 736 your ggf Isaac Joseph Pardo was born in 1824 in Schwerin, and married to Maria de Jesus Mendes Monsanto, born 1824 in Curacao. He died in 1887 in Hamburg. His brother Michael Pardo born 8.11.1818 in Schwerin married 13.10.1850 to Ester de Joseph Luria Luria de Lemos. Ester was born 27.6.1818 in Altona . They emigrated to Venezuelea. from this marriage are:Jose Pardo b 22. 10.1853 in Caracas and died in Hamburg in 20.5.1914. Jose was married to Lucia Pardo born 8.8.1855 in Caracas Angelina Pardo b. 17.11.1854 Hana Pardo b 22.4.1858 Henry Gabriel Pardo b 22.8.1859 The parents of Isaac Joseph and Michael were: Jacob de Aron de Isaac Pardo, born 6.4.1786 Hamburg, he died in Santo Domingo on 6 december 1826. Jacob was married to Angela Nehemias (Pardo) in Hamburg on 12 July 1805. Aron de Isaac was born- Curacao. 10 dec 1757 and married to Hana Abendana Belmonte in Amsterdam 27 augustus 1783. Aron Pardo died in Curacao 1814. Hana born 1760 Hamburg. Isaac born ca 1724 in Curacao or London and he died in 1814 in Curacao, he was married 1 May 1749 probably Curacao to Abigail Vaz Farro ( 1729-1782) who died in 1782 in Curacao. Anyway this story continues backward. You MUST also take a look at the genealogical goldmines that were written by Isaac S. Emmanuel and his wife Suzanne A. Emmanuel called: History of the Jews of the Netherlands Antilles ( 2 volumes) and also by him a book called : Precious Stones which describes the tombstones plus elaborate family history of the Sephardic families of Curacao The Pardo family was also researched and written in the Swiss magazine Majaan/ Die Quelle by I think the authour of the Lexicon Michel Studemund Halevy >from Hamburg. Maybe this helps. Rene van Wijngaarden Anybody researching the name Delvalle, Salom del Valle or Van Daelen please contact me BTW have you contacted Mrs. Monsanto >from Curacao already ? I will BCC this message to her MODERATOR NOTE: While this post was a response to Daniel Pardo and normally would not have been posted to the entire group, Rene provides information on resources that can be a benefit to others and for this reason it is being shared with the entire mailing list.

Listing of Belchatow Jews Pre-1940
#poland
Roni S. Liebowitz
In August 1992, on the 50th Anniversary of the Liquidation
of the Jewish Ghetto in Belchatow, representatives of Jewish Belchatower Societies, led by Menachem Sharon, former secretary of the Israeli embassy in Warsaw and now chairman of the Belchatower Society in Israel, with the support of the mayor of Belchatow, erected a memorial monument made from parts of broken gravestones in a public park on thesite of the former Jewish cemetery. [See photos at http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Belchatow/gravestones.ht m ]. To see photos of the 1992 ceremony, go to http://www.jri-poland.org/belchatow_memorial.htm At the ceremony, Menachem Sharon was presented a 137-page document listing all the Jews who lived in Belchatow as of 1939 along with their dates of birth (very few do not have the dates included). This effort was led by the late Mr. Boguslaw Dziedzic, Director of the Regional Museum in Belchatow and the President of the Association of the Friends of Belchatow. The list which contains the names of over 6,000 Jews was compiled mostly >from the Belchatow Book of Residents but may have also been added to >from vital records and recollections of neighbors. Several of the names appear more than once on the original list, probably because people were listed a few times in the Book of Residents. Sometimes a person is listed twice on the database but with dates of birth that differ by one number. Possibly a different date was reported depending upon who gave the information at the time the Book of Residents was compiled. The database of these names reflects these inconsistencies. Mr. Sharon presented this document to me in July 2004. Of the 137 pages, one page (number 32) is missing. This would contain up to 52 people with surnames beginning with the letters "F" but mostly "G." The original list is in alphabetical order but only as far as the first letter, so the missing surnames can be any starting with these letters. The database contains a few other obvious errors which are present in the original list. These were not corrected, but noted in a column added to the file. This list is now searchbale on the Jewish Records Indexing-Poland website. This information is accessible to you today thanks to the efforts of two volunteers who helped prepare it for the internet. The 137-page document was scanned by Hadassah Lipsius. Logan Kleinwaks then took the scans and translated them into type-written text using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. He then manually corrected any obvious errors. Thanks to Jewish Records Indexing-Poland for providing the database expertise to make this information accessible and to JewishGen Inc. for providing the website. Happy Chanukah!! Researching TEICHER from Sambor and Drohobycz

Vika Teicher <vikateicher@...>
Hello,
I just joined the Galicia SIG. I have been doing genealogy research on and off for about 3 years. I consider myself to be novice. I live in Oakland, California, USA, and my native language is English. The family names and towns that I am researching are: Elias TEICHER - Sambor 1906 Isak or Yitschok TEICHER - Sambor and Drohobycz Gittel LIEBERMANN - Sambor and Drohobycz Cipora WEBER - Frystak 1904 My grandfather, Elias TEICHER, was born in Sambor on Jan 4, 1906. He died in New York City on June 21, 2001. His parents were Isak (or Yitschok) TEICHER and Gittel LIEBERMANN. I believe two of his sisters were Chane TEICHER, born in Drohobycz in 1899, and Chaje Lifsche TEICHER, born in Drohobycz in 1902. I'm looking for a copy of Elias' birth certificate or any other documentation proving he was Polish. I'm also looking for any other information on his family. My grandmother, Cipora Weber, was born in Frystak on February 1, 1904. She married Elias Teicher while in Berlin on July 11, 1929. She died in New York City in September 1992. I'm looking for any information about her family. Thank you! Martin PACH - Berlin Doctor ca 1890 - 1918
#germany
Geoff Kaiser <geoff.kaiser@...>
Dear Researchers,
My G grandmother Helene KAISER geb PACH had a brother Dr Martin PACH (born 1862 in Unruhstadt) who became a Dr and lived in Berlin until about 1918 when he died (unknown causes). Anecdotal family information has him mentioned as being "sanitaetsrat", which I believe is some form of higher recognition / qualification as a medical expert. Can anyone advise me about how I may be able to gather more information on him via lists of Berlin Doctors or perhaps University records, Berlin newspapers etc. Any suggestions for where to look for additional information would be appreciated. Many thanks, Geoff Kaiser Melbourne - Australia <geoff.kaiser@hotmail.com>

As far as I know my widowed ggf married his second wife in Breslau in 1880.
I am hoping that the record of their marriage would provide some details of her ancestry and place of birth. Can anyone suggest a point of contact for the Jewish community of the former Breslau, now Wroclaw? Oliver Bryk, San Francisco <oliverbryk@comcast.net>

Re: Seeking Town Identification

Carlos Glikson
Jonathan Wind mentioned his grandfather emigrated >from Rzeszow, Poland, and
that he could not identify the town listed as his "last residence" on the ship's manifest, which looks like "Brzewa." . He also added that the ShtetlSeeker site didn't solve his query. ShtetlSeeker gives the coordinates for Rzeszów, 158.0 miles SSE of Warszawa, as 50°03' 22°00' . Using ShtetlSeeker's Radius Search in http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/LocRad.asp to find the towns in a 30 mile radius of Rzeszów's coordinates, I came up with certain "possibles". Unfortunately, I do not know how to pronounce the Polish names for the towns. Allowing pronounciation variants, initial letter or whole sound misunderstanding, mistaken handwritten transcriptions, and other reasons for change , I wonder if Jonathan´s grandfather's last residence (seemingly "Brzewa" in the manifest) could have been one of the following examples around Rzeszow : Krzywa 50°05'N 21°44'E 12.0 miles W of Rzeszów Krzywe, Krzywa 49°49'N 21°58'E 16.2 miles S of Rzeszów Braciejowa 49°59'N 21°26'E 25.6 miles W of Rzeszów There are more than 900 names to check with ShtetlSeeker's Radius Search within 30 miles of Rzeszow. Perhaps someone knowledgeable in Polish may find a confusion of "Brzewa" and Braciejowa possible or unacceptable, for example, or suggest other "possible originals" for "Brzewa". Carlos Glikson
