Marja FRENSDORF, born: 25-02-1909, in Tarnow, Poland

Does anyone have any information on Marja FRENSDORF, Date of Birth:
25-02-1909, Place of Birth: Tarnow, Poland She is listed in British records of aliens, as living in the UK 1939 to 1942 (she may have emigrated to the USA), and is specifically listed as Jewish. To the best of my knowledge, all FRENSDORFs (or FRENSDORFF) who are of Jewish ancestry, were descendants of Suessel (Jekusiel?) [ben] Hirsch, a merchant in Frensdorf, a village near Bamberg, Bavaria, who was born ca 1650. The Frensdorf family are Levites. One extensive branch is descended >from Rabbi Michael [ben Meir/Marum] FRENSDORFF of Hamburg and Hannover. The line had many rabbis, scholars, and even an Episcopal bishop. There was a branch who studied medicine in Heidelberg and practiced in Bamberg. One Captain FRENSDORF was a hero on the winning side of the Battle of Waterloo (not sure if he's related) A number of branches came to the USA in the mid-1800's. One branch lived in Syracuse, NY, one large branch settled in the Great Lakes region and became prominent in agrobusiness and politics. I have much information and would appreciate more so that I can link together the various trees that I have. Of course, I'll supply info in return. Michael Bernet, New York

Dear Genners:
I'm trying to find the current whereabouts of a cousin of mine, Rachel Shoichet, who lived in Herziliah, and my last known address for her was 3O years ago. Her husband's name is Shalom. Does anybody have knowledge of a website in English that would give Israeli white page listings for residences. In Canada we have 411.com, which is fantastic. Any help would be very much appreciated. Dr. Rosenstein is
Looking for information about the ancestry of Dr. Weizmann, President ofI'd like to share a story because it shows that little things we sometimes take for granted are not so little after all, and are not always granted. The story, unfortunately, does not reveal a lot about Dr. Weizmann's ancestry, even if it refers to his family. It does mention his native town, and is based on info I found when trying to identify the original town for a friend“s family - Dr. Weizmann's shtetl. In 2003 someone in LitvakSig (I am not checking now) was trying to pinpoint where his family came from, and wondered if the habit of drinking tea while holding a lump of sugar between the teeth was particular of a certain area. Information followed >from subscribers with different information and ideas. After a certain reply I added this story : "Bruce Sanders' theory is that having the sugar cube visible for all to see, while drinking tea, was a sign that you could afford sugar. I'd like to expand this with some nice info in an eMail which I kept an year ago - but could not find on-line now. I had to do some research for a friend. His family is related to the Weizmanns >from Motol. Chaim Weizmann, the first president of modern Israel, was born in Motol, in today's Belarus. Searching for Weizmanns and Motol, I came across this. The author of the eMail.mentioned quoted his uncle Aaron. Aaron - believed to live across >from the Weizmanns in Motol - said that "the Weizmanns were so rich" that.... "they had sugar in their tea every day." !! Certainly many of us take some things for granted nowadays - sugar, for example. Extracting and refining sugar >from sugar beet was the activity of some of my family members. Probably, the Weizmann's sugar came >from sugar beet, too. By the way, I remember the tradition of cube-in-teeth and tea- in- tall- glasses (with and without handles) for family members originating as North as Vilna Gubernia and as South as Kremenchug, Ukraine. Who copied whom? Carlos GLIKSON Buenos Aires, Argentina PD: There is some info Dr. Rosenstein may find interesting in http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/motol/ and http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/motol/mb10.pdf I was helping a Chemerinsky. Edited by Alter Druyanov with advice >from Hayim Fialkov . Glossary by Yom Tov Levinsky. Tel Aviv: Dvir, 1951. (First appeared in Reshumot Vol II, 1927 pages 5-124.) 209 pages." ... " Some of these writings provide rich information about specific families. Most of the literature relates to the Chemerinsky/ Chemerinsky/ Fialkov/ Weingarten/ Weizmann/ Shapiro group of families. Though memoirs by members of Motol's leading families are available, we know little about life from the perspective of its poorer Jews."

Zalozce, Galicia, Poland and the CHILL family

Dina Hill <dina_hill@...>
Hi,
Since I've picked up my genealogy again, I have to start with my brick wall on this side of the family as well. I learned that in 1885, a 21 year old tailor named Aron Josef Chill came to New York. It stated that he was >from Galicia. On the 1900 census, he was married to Sara Rubenstein (Rubinstein). His first born son Benjamin Hill was born in September 1887. Aron Josef Chill (aka Aaron Joseph Hill) was buried in Mt. Zion cemetery in the Erste Zaloshiner Chevra Anshei Bnei Achim Society burial site. I believe that Zaloshiner is the shtetl Zalozce. Is it and is that in Galicia?? I don't remember which document I have that stated it, but it stated that he was >from Zalozce. Aron arrived by himself in 1885. I have checked the databases of arrivals in the USA and there is no Sara Rubenstein. I have tried Sura, Sarah, Sara and I have tried the Polish spelling of Rubenstajn and I come up with nothing. I checked for Sarah, Sura, Sara Chill and Hill and still came up with nothing except for a 4 year old Sara Rubenstein arriving >from Poland to NY. On the records I have, everything states that she was >from Poland too, but I can't find her. They had a baby within two years of his arrival. So where'd she go?? Am I missing something? I can't figure out how to find his wife's entry into the USA. Is there a database that has arrivals to Canada?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely, Dina Aptekar Hill SEARCHING: APTEKAR, APTEKARZ, KLEINKAUFMAN, KLAJNKOFMAN, Arthur, son of Mikal GABRIEL, Sara, daughter of Yisroel RUBENSTEIN, Feige HELFMAN, ALENSKI, CHAMITA, CHILL/HILL, PEST/PESS, TEMER, Elchanan MARVIN (still searching for the original surname), and Pauline INGERMAN.

Hi, it's me again. I have another approach for finding my elusive family,
again, they can be >from "anywhere" in the vicinity of Zinkov. Does anyone have the following couples in their family tree? *Ze'ev/Wolf* and *Ester Fagie*. They were probably born in the 1820s, maybe early 1830s. Some names that "might" appear in their families [or the families of their children] are: *Yechiel, Haskel and Sophia*. *Yeruhem Fischel (possibly PLOTKER/PLOTKA)* and *Rosa PEPPER* (or some variation of PEPPER, it can be PFEFER, etc.). Pepper was Rosa's maiden name. I think that they were also born in the 1820s or 1830s. I think that Rosa died in childbirth about 1872 and Yeruhem Fishel died sometime before 1884. He was some sort of an inspector. Again, I look forward to hearing >from anyone who has anything that might be even remotely related to or sounds like the above information.
