Looking for information about the ancestry of Dr. Weizmann, President of
Israel.

I'd like to share a story because it shows that little things we sometimes
take for granted are not so little after all, and are not always granted.
The story, unfortunately, does not reveal a lot about Dr. Weizmann's
ancestry, even if it refers to his family. It does mention his native town,
and is based on info I found when trying to identify the original town for a
friend´s family - Dr. Weizmann's shtetl.

In 2003 someone in LitvakSig (I am not checking now) was trying to pinpoint
where his family came from, and wondered if the habit of drinking tea while
holding a lump of sugar between the teeth was particular of a certain area.
Information followed >from subscribers with different information and ideas.
After a certain reply I added this story :

"Bruce Sanders' theory is that having the sugar cube visible for all to see,
while drinking tea, was a sign that you could afford sugar. I'd like to
expand this with some nice info in an eMail which I kept an year ago - but
could not find on-line now.

I had to do some research for a friend. His family is related to the
Weizmanns >from Motol. Chaim Weizmann, the first president of modern Israel,
was born in Motol, in today's Belarus. Searching for Weizmanns and Motol, I
came across this. The author of the eMail.mentioned quoted his uncle Aaron.

Since I've picked up my genealogy again, I have to start with my brick wall
on this side of the family as well. I learned that in 1885, a 21 year old
tailor named Aron Josef Chill came to New York. It stated that he was >from
Galicia. On the 1900 census, he was married to Sara Rubenstein
(Rubinstein). His first born son Benjamin Hill was born in September 1887.
Aron Josef Chill (aka Aaron Joseph Hill) was buried in Mt. Zion cemetery in
the Erste Zaloshiner Chevra Anshei Bnei Achim Society burial site. I
believe that Zaloshiner is the shtetl Zalozce. Is it and is that in
Galicia?? I don't remember which document I have that stated it, but it
stated that he was >from Zalozce.

Aron arrived by himself in 1885. I have checked the databases of arrivals
in the USA and there is no Sara Rubenstein. I have tried Sura, Sarah, Sara
and I have tried the Polish spelling of Rubenstajn and I come up with
nothing. I checked for Sarah, Sura, Sara Chill and Hill and still came up
with nothing except for a 4 year old Sara Rubenstein arriving >from Poland to
NY. On the records I have, everything states that she was >from Poland too,
but I can't find her. They had a baby within two years of his arrival. So
where'd she go?? Am I missing something?

I can't figure out how to find his wife's entry into the USA. Is there a
database that has arrivals to Canada?? Any advice would be greatly

Hartford? We have a relatively large Jewish Community in West Hartford, CT.

have the following couples in their family tree?

early 1830s. Some names that "might" appear in their families [or the
families of their children] are: *Yechiel, Haskel and Sophia*.

*Yeruhem Fischel (possibly PLOTKER/PLOTKA)* and *Rosa PEPPER* (or some
variation of PEPPER, it can be PFEFER, etc.). Pepper was Rosa's maiden
name. I think that they were also born in the 1820s or 1830s. I think that
Rosa died in childbirth about 1872 and Yeruhem Fishel died sometime before
1884. He was some sort of an inspector.
