Rautenberg, Broder, Baer, and Bar surnames #general

Karen Rautenberg <ikrgrkrn@...>

My husband, Eric Rautenberg, had very few family members known to him, because his
mother was a Holocaust survivor. We have been searching for ancestors on Eric's side.
Eric's mother Edith Rautenberg (born Border) was a Holocaust survivor. She never
wanted to talk about her life in those times. If anyone has any family with these
surnames it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Dear All,

I posted a late 1920's picture of the young siblings Mosiek and Ruchla
Lichtensztajn. The family lived in or near Opatow (Cmielow), Poland. The
back of the picture indicates that their mother's maiden name was Djament.
So Mosiek and Ruchla were born to Djament mother and Lichtensztajn father who
presumably lived in or near Opatow.

Would anyone happen to recognize this couple or their children?

Dear All,

I posted a late 1920's picture of a group of people in Zawichost, Poland. I
only know the name of the young woman on the left - Chana Malka Karbel. She was my
maternal grandmother, born 1909 in Zawichost to Majer Karbel and Alta Ryfka
Sobel. Knowing it's a shot in the dark, I hope someone could identify the other
people.

MAZURENKO/MAYER/MAZOUR/MOZER #general

Felissa Lashley

My great great grandfather reportedly used surnames of both Mazurenko
and Mayer. These evolved to Mazour and Mozer in the U.S. He was a
horticulturist in the Ukraine. Any possible reasons for multiple name
use? Any ideas on how to find out more about him in Ukrainian records?
Thank you.

Major Breakthrough - GRUENHUT / GRUNHUT (u umlaut) #germany

Hank Lobbenberg

MODERATOR NOTE: German words spelled with the umlaut (two dots over
a vowel) please spell the word as shown below. This will help
people searching the archives for that word will find it.
A search for "GREUNHUT or GRUNHUT" will not produce results if the
name is written "gru (umlaut)nhut". A link to the SIG archive search
engine is included in the footers at the end of every GerSIG Email. ====>

Over the past weekend I finally completed a puzzle in my Lobbenberg family
tree. A few years ago, Peter Rohel sent me a link to the gru (umlaut)nhut
line. [ GRUENHUT / GRUNHUT u umlaut ]
My mother was Betty G. but I was stymied in my search for ancestors. The
link he sent connected my father to a sixteenth century man and then further
back.
Through contact with a third cousin, Fred Greenhut, I was able to add his
ancestors to my tree and discover that a brother of his great grandfather
was my 2nd great grandfather.
This breakthrough means that my parents were very distantly related.

Re: Shanghai #germany

Dolores Palomo <whoozit@...>

For a number of years I have been collecting information about the
Jewish detntion in Shanghai (re my distant cousin Philipp
QUARTIERMEISTER who went >from Dachau to Buchenwald to Shanghai to
Portland OF)-- there are websites, books and articles, and a video
which i have not been able to obtain.

All this info I accumulated in an MS Office OneNote notebook, which I
have exported into Word format, which I have sent only to the
individual but will gladly email to anyone interested.

Also seeking information on anyone with the surname QUARTIERMEISTER

GerSIG at the IAJGS Conference in Warsaw #germany

Jeanette R Rosenberg OBE

Dear GerSIG Members

We are now getting very close to the forthcoming IAJGS conference in
Warsaw, where your Directors will look forward to meeting you and
sharing with you our achievements and activities over the last year
during the GerSIG Business Meeting. This summer, we will be welcoming
Ma=C5=82gorzata P=C5=82oszaj, known as Malgosia as our invited GerSIG Guest
Speaker. Beyond this, there are also a number of other GerSIG
interest talks too!

Please let me know by writing to me privately if you will be attending
conference this year. Please also let me know if you would be willing
to help with staffing the GerSIG table at the Share Fair, this is a
session on the first day where attendees can collect their GerSIG
Conference Ribbon, meet up with other GerSIG members, and seek
one-to-one help with their research. I understand there are well over
50 GerSIG members attending conference this year.

As in other years, I am planning to send email summaries each day to
share the conference happenings with those unable to be there.

All good wishes, Jeanette R Rosenberg OBE London UK
GerSIG Director for Conference Arrangements

German Section of the JOWBR [JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry] #germany

E Feinstein

This is Eric Feinstein. I am a volunteer for the JOWBR. We have made a
special effort to add German records >from many corners (sources) over
the past few years. As of the last update we have 1280 cemeteries with
some 240,929 burials indexed for Germany.
[Select Germany in the country list at:
https://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Cemetery/tree/CemList.htm ]

This number does not include the former German areas of Poland
where we have indexed some 88 cemeteries with a further 25,717 burials.

More is on the way. That said there are many large record sets that
we have not succeeded in making headway. This includes large cemeteries
in Frankfurt am Main, Hannover, Munich, Leipzig and others.

Any assistance would be appreciated, especially >from anyone in Germany
open to lobbying on our behalf. Just a note that "help" does not
include sending us email, phone or contact information --but it does
include using that same information to make the call for us. Big Smile.
Happy Hunting.

All the best, Eric Feinstein, New Jersey ericfeinstein@...
