The digest opened doors for me #yiddish

Evelyn Filippi

This place is amazing . I would like to thank Lloica, Marilyn, Sarah and
a whole list that I misplaced of other people who not only contacted me
giving me phone nos, newspaper articles, photos etc but also contacted
other people that knew my relatives that contacted me giving me more info.
When I asked for help in finding information on MARTIN ROMAN who was a
composer and his wife TONI MAUSNER who was a singer and other MAUSNER
relatives. I spoke to one relative that the last time i saw him is when his
father gave me a red trycle with a bell. I had tried for several years to find
out info and one letter in here opened up the doors. thank you again and
again

Field Guide to Visiting a Jewish Cemetery #yiddish

David Harris <dorsharris@...>

The following message is being sent to all JewishGen mailings.

Snowbound cemeteries are now cleared for visiting and genealogical sleuthing!

Be sure to include your camera, hedge clippers, notebook,
pencils, whisk broom and Rabbi Joshua Segal's "Field Guide to
Visiting a Jewish Cemetery"....the quintessential tool for unlocking
tombstone inscriptions, decoding dates and deciphering many of the
more common inscriptions.

Rabbi Segal's soft cover book is a necessary "bring-along" whether
you are visiting a cemetery in North America, Europe or Israel since
the inscriptions are similar. The book is available in the
JewishGenMall at a special conference discounted price of only $18 plus S& H.

visit www.jewishgenmall.org and enter the title, A Field Guide to
Visiting a Jewish Cemetery, or the product code JCP101

Happy hunting and successful sleuthing <g>

We need to find (hopefully) birth/marriage certificates >from Weimar,

would appreciate any pointers on how best to get these records, if in
fact they exist. [Reply privately, and we will summarize useful

Street Identification or area #unitedkingdom

I beleive to have found the naturalization of a great Uncle.

His name was Lazarus Harris Alexanderowitz, which later
became Harris Alexander. His papers are dated in 1903.
I can not confirm any information in the papers. Though it
says he is married no wife is listed. It also does not give
his original nativity.

In his papers it was stated that before 1900 he lived at 31
Gun? Street Spitalfields E. and >from 1900 on he was living
at 106 Houndsditch EC or EG in the city of London.

Can someone help me determine where he was in the 1901 census.

Where might I look.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

my linguistic inadequacies!! If anyone trying to decipher this document
requires a copy saved at a higher resolution then please do get in

Dear Moderator,
With reference to the miracle of finding and restoring the torah to the
family that originally owned it, I think that you made the proper
decision in publishing it. I found it very interesting.
