Yad Vashem database #romania

Rosanne Leeson <rdleeson@...>

Zvi Bernhardt of Yad Vashem has asked me to post this message regarding
difficulties experienced by researchers using the Yad Vashem Database.

Joyce Field
JewishGen VP, Data Acquisitions

On Yom Hashoah, we [Yad Vashem] put up a whole new site. We did this in
order to integrate a Russian interface for the site, a very important
move as we have also started a project to collect Pages of Testimony
among Russian speaking Jews. The project is currently being carried out
in the Ukraine and in Israel.

Like most new sites, the new site has bugs. We have sorted out most of
the bugs, but the site is still not as stable as the site we had before
Yom Hashoah. At this point, most of the time it works fine, but the
problems described below happens every few days. Our computer people
are working hard to solve the problem as quickly as possible.

PLEASE write us at central.database@... if you encounter
technical problems with our site. We usually aren't able to answer you
quickly enough to help you, but you help us (and yourself in the long
run) by making sure we know all the problems that exist.

Nathan Sturman

Hi,
Two items of mine are now available on the viewmate, numbers
VM8043 and VM 8044. They are an envelope >from my grandfather
Nathan STURMAN's landsman's association, a Vinnitsa group, I am
told, in Philadelphia addressed to his residence of the time
(1914) and the other is a STURMAN family portrait taken around
1923 after the family moved to their long term residence at 512
Dickenson St. Nathan (Nussen) Paultiel Sturman is my
grandfather.
His father's name in turn was Yitzhak Halevi-Sturman, of
Teplyk/Teplic, Podolia, Vinnitsa, with relations in or near
Uman, Kiev, perhaps main body of the family, which had a beef
cattle ranch according to family lore. Nathan was an associate
of Bernard S Pincus in Philadelphia and had a meat distribution
business on Dock St called Nathan Sturman and Son, then Nathan
Sturman's Sons after his passing in 1943.
Maybe somebody will find the items of interest or use in
indentification etc.

And there are oven more resources online!

The JGS-Montreal has just recently put all burials >from one of
Montreal's largest cemeteries on the JewishGen JOWBR burials index
(http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/cemetery/) and there are several
GOLDENZWEIGs there including Isaac who died in 1938. Since the city
directory at 4000 Colonial is for I. GOLDENZWEIG, I assume this is
the same person and would explain why the entry disappeared then. If
his wife was Braine, she died in 1929.

The JGS-M also has a large collection of vital records and I will
send you the GOLDENZWEIG records privately. Further details at
