Town of Zula, in Prussia ? #poland

Airbair@...

My gg aunt's death certificate, issued in Chicago in 1928, gives her
birth location about 1850 as "Zula, Germany." Other members of the family
were born in Ostrowo and Gnesen, then in Prussia, which I believe are
Ostrow Wielkepolska and Gniezno, near Poznan in present-day Poland.

If any readers of this list can identify the town of Zula, please
respond privately.

I have also sent this message to the GerSIG list.

Thank you!

Patricia,

You are most probably searching for place Cwitowa, and it can be
challenging and confusing a bit since there were two Cwitowa and at
the same time also two Podkamien in Poland.

One Cwitowa was located in district Buczacz near towns Brody and
Jazlowiec (currenly known as Pomortsy) in Tarnopol Province.

The other Cwitowa was located in Kalusz district near towns Bukaczowce
and Bursztyn in Stanislawow Province.

I have measured distances >from both Cwitowa to both town named Podkamien
in Stanislawow Tarnool and at appears that your Cwitowa is one in
Stanislawow region.
It is known currently as Tsvitova at 4913 2428.
Podkamien at 4927 2429 is located 16 miles >from Tsvitova.

As far as I recall, Sir Herbert wrote a book about his experience in
Palestine. She would be mentioned there, I guess.

You can write to the Jewish Agency, or the Zionist Archives, both in
Jerusalem. Jewishgen archives has contact information for both. You might
be able to get information >from closer at home in South Africa, >from a local
library, synagogue library or Jewish Agency office.

Tradition has it that my great great garndfather Avraham Chaim GINSBERG was
sent to Irkuts (Siberia) >from Minsk (Belarus). We have a photograph taken
of him in Irkuts in about 1903/1904. He must have died by July 1907 as my
grandfather was named after him and he was born then. Does anyone know how
I can follow up that information to find out when he died and if possible
where he is buried?

Only Jewish Lawyer in Warsaw? Sir Herbert SAMUEL's secretary? #general

Lehava Falkson

Hi,

Recent conversation with an older family member yielded two pieces of
information which were unknown to me, and I have not been able so far to
find any further information. Can anyone help?

According to this relative:

A. My great-grandmother's brother was the only Jewish lawyer in Warsaw at
the time. My great-grandmother's maiden name was Sochaczewski, and we are
probably talking about the years 1880-1910 or thereabouts.

B. My grandmother's cousin, name unknown - she might have been this said
lawyer's daughter - was the private secretary of Sir Herbert Samuel, when
he was the British High Commissioner of Palestine 1920-1925.

Has anyone got any ideas of how can I find more information and
