Esther GREENBERG nee DRUSKOWITZ/GOLDSHMIDT
#unitedkingdom
Susan Goldsmith
Dear SIG,
I am seeking cousins: the family of Esther GREENBERG, nee DRUSKOWITZ. Esther emigrated >from Lithuania to England with her parents Avraham, a Rabbi and his wife Henne Leia (later Lillian) nee GOLDSHMIDT. I believe Esther settled in Liverpool. Rabbi Avraham Druskowitz was a Rabbi in Seta, near Kaunas and wrote a book that was publishd in Kaunas in 1933. I assume they emigrated after that, although it is possible that they emigrated as early as 1912. I believe a brother Yochanan and sister Sarah also emigrated, but I know Sarah traveled on to the US and then Israel. I have searched the Jewish Chronicle for DRUSKOWITZ(VITZ)(VICH) to no avail; for Esther GREENBERG, I have found announcements of grandchildren and great grandchildren, but am not sure if the Esther mentioned is my relative. I do not know Esther's husband's first name or the names of their children. If anyone knows the family please contact me privately. Thank you for your kindness. Best Regards, Susan Goldsmith San Francisco Bay Area USA ~

Yiddish Theater Notables - Mt. Hebron Cemetery in NY
#yiddish
David Harris <dorsharris@...>
It was brought to my attention by Judi Langer-Surnamer Caplan, that
Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Queens, NY has a section of burial plots for members of the Yiddish Theatre Alliance. The Alliance section is located in Block 67. Judi was kind enough to include a photo of the grave of Maurice Schwartz, a founder of the Alliance and a noted actor on New York's Yiddish stage. If interested in an email photo attachment of the grave stone, please email me directly at <dorsharris@verizon.net> A listing of names in that section can be found at http://stevemorse.org/vital/cem.php?cem=http://www.mounthebroncemetery.com/search.asp&fromyear=0000&toyear=9999 Be sure to copy the entire URL into your browser. For IAJGS attendees joining the bus trip to Mt. Hebron, if there's time to spare, you may wish to visit the Yiddish Theatre Alliance Section. Possibly, a future YT&V web page could be designed to include photos >from Mt. Hebron and other cemeteries with Yiddish theater and Vaudeville notables. So, if taking photos at the cemetery, please try to take additional photos at the Yiddish Theatre Alliance Section. David W. Harris Moderator, YT&V

Superstitions

Shirley Collier <shirley.collier@...>
I share both those fears of keys on the table and a bird bringing death in
the house. One I have control over so have never put it to the test but a bird came into our house when I was a child and this was followed shortly afterwards by a death. I have no idea where these superstitions originated but my family came >from Poland. malcolm katz <malkikatz9361@...>
Many thanks for the replies keep them coming as its
very intresting to know why i do these things. I was also bought up with the worst thing that can happen is a bird flies into your house but it depends what bird!! This is very much lost in the mists of time to me,But i believe it sygnifies also death being bought into the house. Please believe i had a very happy house and modern thinking family,But on the keys on table and birds there was genuine fear and concern. So again if anyone knows this one i find it intresting and going by replies so do other people. Kind regards Malki Katz London ___________________________________________________________ The all-new Yahoo! 1770 Bay Ridge Pkwy, Brooklyn
#general
Monica Talmor
I need help finding out who manages the building at 1770 75th St. in
Brooklyn, also known as Bay Ridge Parkway. I don't know if it's a condo complex, or private apartments, or rented apartments, but it has multiple residents and I'm trying to find out what happened to a family that lived there in the 1960's. I know about the ACRIS website, and what I found there is that the mortgage on the property was all paid off in 1993, and there is a person's name there, but I'm not sure that's the place to start. Maybe someone on this list lives close to that address and can give me a phone number to contact. Thanks for any help, Monica Talmor Hamden, CT
