Unwanted replies #general

I just sent a lengthy reply to someone who posted on the list, asking
help in locating several people. It took some time to do the lookups.

I received (another!) one of those annoying "If you would like to be
added to my list of approved senders" messages.

Dear poster, I do not want to be on your approved list. But you want to
talk to me, I think. Your loss.

Bydgoszczy/Bromberg 1929 address and business directory #germany

Logan J. Kleinwaks

A 1929 address and business directory for the city of Bydgoszczy/Bromberg is
available online >from the Kujawsko-Pomorska Digital Library at
http://kpbc.umk.pl/dlibra/docmetadata?id=12140. This is in addition to the
1923 address directory I posted about yesterday. This directory is easily
manually searchable, as it contains a section alphabetized by business type,
beginning on image 64, a section alphabetized by street name, beginning on image
161, and a section alphabetized by surname/given name, beginning on image 380.

To view the directory, follow the above link and click on "Content" on the
left, under "Publication." Either the directory will open or you will be
prompted to download a DjVu plugin for your web browser. If you have
already installed the plugin, click on "Browse publication" to open the
directory. When the directory is open, you can use the pull-down menu near
the top to select the image you want to view. You can download the plugin
from http://www.lizardtech.com/download/dl_options.php?page=plugins. Best regards,

Rabbi Alexander Sender SCHOR #rabbinic

Tomer Brunner

Shalom friends,

My g-g-grandfather, Moshe MARTON of Szombathely (Hungary), was born
in 1842 in Fekete-Ardo, a village in the Carpathian mountains
(today: Chernotisov, Ukraine).

His mother was Feiga SCHOR, whose family lived in or around Lviv
(Lemberg, Lwow). She was descended >from Rabbi Alexander Sender
SCHOR, author of "Tevuot Shor." Rabbi Alexander Sender SCHOR died
in 1737 in Zolkiew (today: Zhovkva, Ukraine).

I would be most interested to know of other families who are
descended >from Rabbi Alexander Sender SCHOR, especially >from his
sons (but also daughters). I was only able to find details about
his daughters and their descendants so far (in books).

Thanks for any help!
Best wishes for a Happy and Kosher Pesach!

WWI veterans guarded the Danzig synagogue #poland #danzig #gdansk #germany

Logan J. Kleinwaks

In his autobiography, "On the Vistula Facing East," Israeli sculptor and
former Danziger Frank Meisler writes, "On the night of 12 November 1938,
when Nazi stormtroopers burned down the synagogues of Langfuhr and Zoppot,
Arthur [LEVANDOVSKY] guarded the Danzig Central Synagogue, club in hand,
with other First World War veterans. But the police intervened and the
synagogue remained intact until its 'official demolition' some six months
later. Violence and arson would not have looked too well in a place located
next door to Police Headquarters and the Fire Brigade."

Does anyone else remember this incident? Does anyone know how the veterans
were organized, and, in particular, whether there was an organization of
Jewish WWI veterans in Danzig? (Perhaps, it was a local chapter of the
Reichsbund Juedischer Frontsoldaten.) Such an organization's records, if
they survive, might have genealogical content.

Thanks and best wishes for Passover,
