Dear Researchers,

I am not sure if you get this email, but I want you to know the situation at the Jewish Cemetery in
Kishinev, Bessarabia/Moldova.

You remember the story that the Prime Minister of Moldova "...demanded a plan to restore the
Jewish cemetery in Kishinev", and I should tell you that there are good news, but also very bad
news >from that cemetery:

The cemetery was cleaned up in the fall of 2018, and you can see >from a photo how large is
the cemetery, and as people on the ground are saying, it was cleaned up.

Aerial view:

http://tinyurl.com/yydk49q8

The bad news are that a number of tombstones were damaged.

http://tinyurl.com/y4ga9beh

http://tinyurl.com/y3dr4cca

Now, I am getting information that there will be no construction of a new building at the cemetery
(museum or so), but there is going to be build a memorial probably to the victims of the Holocaust...

If you have issues seeing the images, or questions, please email me at mailto:yefimk@verizon.net

Galicia I course begins April 1 #ukraine

Phyllis Kramer

Did you have ancestors >from Galicia? Would you like to understand the
resources for researching them? This two part course is designed for
those relatively new to Galician research, but know the town of
origin. We begin with online town sources, continue with surname
research via vital records using four major websites: Routes to Roots,
JRI-Poland, Gesher
Galicia and JewishGen; advanced students may continue by researching
directly in the Polish archives websites.

We will focus on developing a methodology for foreign research,
including: (1) the Family Document containing all the necessary
information about your family branch, (2) the Research Table of where
you've searched, (3) Your ToDo list, (4) contact list of who is researching your
surname or shtetl, and (5) a descriptive paragraph to connect with
fellow researchers and professionals.

Course Material will include an
online, downloadable textbook. Please note: We do not research US or
UK records; you need to
know the immigrants name and town >from prior research.
Galicia II (2020)will cover the historical background, the Polish
Archives, over 50 different source websites
(census, military, directories etc), Holocaust, languages, hiring a
researcher and more!

This is a personal mentoring program (unique to JewishGen education)
which features an online FORUM where you'll be encouraged to post one
ancestral branch (one surname), set goals for your research, and work
one-on-one with the instructor to research vital records for your
branch and ask your
questions. Our classes have no scheduled times as our students are
international, enabling everyone to read/view/post at leisure.

It is imperative that you read the full description at
https://www.jewishgen.org/education/description.asp?course=40144, then
please ask any question. Registration is open to 15 students.

Looking for more volunteers to Index books for Yizkor Books In Print Project #poland

The Yizkor-Books-In-Print project is embarking on a initiative to
index the books we publish. If you have MS WORD and want to help at
least one hour a week, we need your help. We will teach you how to
use the indexing function of MS WORD and ask you to help with
indexing. This effort will make these books even more valuable with
indices to locate your relatives and ancestors in these books. If
think it's time to "Give Back", then here is an opportunity.

These are translations of Memorial or Yizkor books of the destroyed

Kriwicz to Chelm #poland

Our Jewish Family History Research

Hello all:

I have searched on JRI-Poland for the following:

"Searching for Town (phonetically like) "KRIWICZ" in all regions"
The results were:

142 records >from Lublin Gubernia(all >from Chelm, Lublin Gubernia)
1 record >from Siedlce Gubernia
8 records >from Stanislawow Wojewodztwo
2 records >from Tarnopol Wojewodztwo"

One of our family branches lived in Chelm, originally >from Kriwicz.

Where would I locate the information explaining why Jewish families
relocated specifically >from Kriwicz to Chelm?
Where would I find the records for Kriwicz?

Many thanks in advance.
