Morris ROSENBERG was born in Pandelys, Lithuania c1880 and migrated to the
USA in 1906 and lived in Johnstown, PA.
He was married twice. With his first wife Anna nee SHAPIRO he had 5
children.
After her death in 1920 he married Lydia SHONBERG and their son Louis
ROSENBERG was born in Johnstown in 1923 . Soon after Louis' birth they
divorced and Morris and his children from his first marriage moved to New
Orleans.
The children from the first marriage lost contact with Louis.
Louis later lived in Bayonne, NJ where he died in 1996.
He may have been married to Sylvia who lived at the same address in Bayonne.
If Louis ROSENBERG had children , I would like to trace them and make
contact with them.

The name looks like Czerwinski.  If you look at the New York arrival of the Neckar on Nov 25, 1903 you will find Mandel Czerwinski. He is passenger #23 on the manifest page. On the same page are, what appear to be two relatives of his, Abram and Beile Czerwinski from the same place.  Looks to me to be Slawinsk

I had a similar situation in Buffalo. My 2nd ggrandfather died and was buried in a (much smaller) cemetery, but I couldn't find any stone or listing in the cemetery records.

A friend of mine 'reorganized' the records of the cemetery, and kept him in mind. The cemetery had maybe10 burials where none should be; and maybe 12 empty plots where somebody should have been.

So he could be one of the 'extra' burials or he could have been buried elsewhere.  Death certificates aren't always right about burials which happen afterwards.

So you and I have to search (easy in Buffalo), but he isn't elsewhere with a stone, anyway. But you have the same problem that I have.

Hi Cousins,

I've posted a petition for naturalization handwritten in English for
which I need an interpretation. It gives the name as "Max Chervin
formerly known as Mendel ???" I can't figure out what the surname is
and would appreciate as many interpretations as possible. Without the
original surname, I can't find any records.

Also, I can't figure out what the name of his birth place is in
Russia/Poland. I'd appreciate any and all interpretations of that, too.

I've posted the entire document in order to provide enough sample of the
handwriting to help with interpretation.

Thanks for that elaboration. I am unfamiliar with their customs, so it is interesting to find out such details.
Henrik was born in Nagy Begany in Bereg county, now Ukraine. His wife Katarina Goldstein was born locally in Atrak (Horné Otrokovce), about 25 km NW of Nitra. DNA analysis confirms that they were both Ashkenazi.

I have the same issue except the Russian Army conscription was in Poland about 1845-50. Do records for this period exist and can we access them? How? The surname was probably FRIEDMAN (Polish: FRIDMAN) or NATAN (Polish version of NATHAN).

Hi,
I went to findagrave.com, and searched on "bra*er."  There were 30 results.  There is an entry for Leah Feldman Braver, Oct. 1845 to Oct. 29, 1930, at Mt. Carmel:

Is this the right person, or are there two Leah Bravers?  It seems to me that the chances of two women born and died the same month/year, same son's name, is worth investigating as more  than mere coincidence.  I'd recommend reseearching the second one, to see if she existed.  The informant might have provided incorrect information, in the flurry of grief.

It is interesting, though, that the entry for Leah Braver at findagrave has no grave location, while the entry for David Braver has exact grave location.  You might email the fellow listed as the Source at findagrave, to see if he has any additional information.  Getting someone to physically go there might be worthwhile.

And as for Braver or Brawer, keep in mind there is a linguistic link between "w" and "v" in our old-world languages.
