The concept of not sharing the information I have found with my families
is completely inconceivable.
I don't know about not sharing information. I have realised that people who
I have made contact with through JGFF and are clearly descended 4 or 5
generations ago >from the same ancestor have withheld >from me how we are
related.

The first thing that I do when I make contact with someone is tell them my
position in the family tree - otherwise I might be anyone doing research.

Looking back I have realised that the missing picture is where they and
their branch of the family fits in.

I believe that the reason that I don't know about them in the first place is
probably because their grandfather married a non-Jew some 4 generations ago
and as a result my greatgrandfather would not have anything to do with the
brothers-in-law and their family.

To clarify they are also registered as interested in the ancestors, but they
are clearly interested in the descendants along the other lines - I hope I
am not the skeleton:)

I was recently told by my father that when my parents were in Haifa 25+

characters).

This is my greatgrandmother's maiden name.

Does the shop still exist?
Whether or not they are family - the names that have come up have a
different spelling - I am going to be in Israel shortly and will make
enquiries.

One contact in the UK has told me that his mother-in-law had a friend in a
town outside London who sounds as if she was quite possibly a not-so-distant
cousin.

He then did a search on the original name in the Census.

The information he has highlighted shows that my greatgrandmother, Cecilia,
lived with a brother and sister-in-law (in the 1881 Census). Her own mother,
Taubchen, who was a widow by this time also lived with them. Ten years later
in the 1891 Census she had married Michael Weitzman and my grandmother,
Clara, was born that year.

My greatgrandfather, Michael died about the time that my grandmother got
married and certainly Cecilia lived with my grandmother's family in her
later years until she died during the War.

Cecilia came to England when she was about 1 and amazingly she never learnt
to speak English properly, so I have been told.

She never took out British citizenship and in 1939 when the Police came
round to register enemy aliens they took one look at this elderly woman and
decided that she didn't pose a threat to national security and left her
alone.

I am starting to build a picture.

Thanks very much!

Can you tell me which region of Romania the village of Botosanyi was in in

The town name is properly written as "Botosani", the S with a
diacritic that causes it to be pronounced as English SH; the I isn't
pronounced, but palatalizes the preceding N. It was in the Dorohoi
