Kunagota Cemetery - Hungary
#hungary
I recently learned >from Istvan Balogh in Hungary, who
has done extensive research on the Jewish community of Bekes megye, that the Jewish cemetery in Kunagota will be closed. According to him, there was an agreement with religious elders who agreed that if there were no funerals in 25 years, the town could re-incorporate the site. Does anyone know what can be done to prevent this? What do we need? I am in Los Angeles, he is in Budapest now, but if anyone has experience with this, I would appreciate your information. Thank you. Yad vaShem-Auschwitz Victims-Additional Data
#hungary
Abuwasta Abuwasta
Dear Genners and Siggers,
As you probably know the Auschwitz Museum website has an alphabetical list of 69,000 victims who were executed there, including non Jews.I just discovered that Yad vaShem has posted the same list on the PoT section but with additional data: the names of the victim's parents. Thus I now know that the parents of my relative Hermann KOENIGSBUCH from Michalovce were Joseph KOENIGSBUCH and HeleneBLAS. Only by having his father's given name I know how he is connected to me(Joseph and my grandfather Ascher were brothers). I assume that BLAS family is >from Slovakia. If it rings a bell I would like to hear privately. Jacob Rosen Jerusalem

Early 20th Century Death Notices
#general
Bobmar37
Several years ago I was looking up some obituaries as a favor for someone
else and found that in those days newspapers didn't have a section for obituaries. They were squeezed in between news articles and social notices here and there, particularly in small town newspapers. In one case, I didn't find the obit I was looking for but simply a notice that a man was home from out-of-town visiting his mother, with no mention of the father's death! Marian Price Rensselaer, NY

Responses: Rodom (or Radom), Sonomira, and Sandomierz & Zawichost

Mark Ross
I made my first posting to the JewishGen site yesterday and I've been simply
overwhelmed with the many helpful and kind responses I've received. Clearly this is a very knowledgeable, and special, group. Hopefully, I'll be able to return the favor one of these days. My thanks to you all. Mark Ross MODERATOR NOTE: The readers are a great bunch. One way to return favors is to make a contribution to JewishGen, supporting genealogical projects and activities that benefit all JewishGenners. For more information, visit: http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/

Help needed with Yiddish translation of one short paragraph from Yizkor Book
#poland
Darren Dalcher <D.Dalcher@...>
I have just uncovered a paragraph about my great-grandfather, Avraham
SZTAJNWORCEL who perished in the Holocaust, in a Yiddish Yizkor Book (for the Tomaszow-Lubelski community). Was hoping for some help with the translation to English. I am looking for translation of the short paragraph dealing with Avraham SZTAJNWORCEL (which is the first main paragraph on the page). A copy of the document has now been uploaded into Viewmate (VM7389): http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=7389 Any help with the translation will be greatly appreciated. Please respond directly to me (d.dalcher@mdx.ac.uk), rather than to the entire list. With many thanks, -- Dr. Darren Dalcher (d.dalcher@mdx.ac.uk) Researching: DALCHER/DOLCHER(Zamosc, Tarnogrod), SZTEINWORCEL (Tomaszow-Lubelski), SZTERN (Krasnystaw), MAJMAN (Szczebrzeszyn), LEDERMAN (Tarnogord) Pinsk: BANKOWSKI, GINZBURG, SHLACKMAN, WASSERMAN
