Success Wainer (Winner) Searching SHEPSENVOL and ZIGLIN #general

Bopollack@...

Beyond our expectation. I grew up with the name Tzak Springer on my lips.
My grandfather lost contact with his sisters during WWII. The only name my
mother could remember was that one of his sisters married a Tsak Springer. After
64 years thanks to many most kind and vigilant people including Eilat Gordin,
the son of Tzak and Shifra has been found in Israel. His name is Shepsel
Shpringer. My cousin, Phyllis Grodzinsky Winstead and I are most grateful and
very excited. We now learned that there might be a family members in the US.
The last names are ZIGLIN (family of Eli Ziglin) and the name SHEPSENVOL.
(family of Zalmon and Nehama nee Wainer).

Our grandfather was Yehuda (Yudel Mendel) Winner. He came to the US with his
sister Rebecca Winner Barofsky. His sisters remained behind. They were
Chaya, Nehama, and Shifra. It is the family of Shifra that has been found.
There is a possibility that some of Chaya's (Ziglin) and Nehama's (Shepsenvol)
family survived also. We are searching in the US for the family of Eli Ziglin
who was said to have come here. Perhaps the Shepsenvol family as well.

Seeking my FRADIN relatives. #general

Max V <targitai2k3@...>

Hello to all,

I am trying to find my relatives and so far no success. Here is the story:
In the 1910's a man whose name was Moses FRADIN (later changed to Morris) came
to United States and settled in Brooklyn, NY. He worked as a tailor. In the
1920's, his children came to US too. Their names were: David, Rita and Raya.
Moses Fradin was born in Chernigov, Ukraine. Rita married a Nathan MICHELSON
and had a child named Lawrence Michelson. Moses died in 1933 and as far as I
know he was buried in Mount Hebron Cemetery located in Bronx, NY. I know
nothing about David except that he was born in about 1911.

If anyone knows something about these people, please contact me privately.
Thanks.

In What Gubernia was Dirschau/Tczew in 1881 #general

Steve Orlen

Dear Cousins,

In reference to the below, I forgot to ask: In what Gubernia was
Dirschau/Tczew in 1881?

Best, Steve Orlen
Tucson, AZ

(My wife's grandmother was born in West Prussia, in Dirschau/Tczew (near
Gdansk) in 1881. I don't know her given name at birth. She married a man
also >from West Prussia, & they moved to Berlin, where she was known as
Johanna. I don't know the history of who owned what at what time, but I
suspect that this was not her given name at birth - n the Given Names
Database for Germany, "Johanna" is seen as a "New Name." When I look on the
Polish databases, everyone seems to have a Yiddish or Hebrew name. Are
there any Yiddish or Hebrew names that might "translate" easily into
Johanna? Or could it more likely have been a name she simply liked?)

French Military records; French resistence/underground #france

David Priever

Dear FrenchSIG Jewishgenners,

I would greatly appreciate anyone leading me in the right direction
concerning obtaining French Army Records pertaining to my father's service
during World War Two as well as French Resistence/Underground records as my
Dad was also part of this.

I have the greatest pleasure in informing all my friends and colleagues in
the genealogical community that a friend of mine who has already written two
successful books is planning on writing about my father's tremendous
experiences during the war. I assisted this person in one
of his books by obtaining genealogical data on his subject. He has asked me
to obtain primary source documentation, which my Dad does not have--only his
sad/great memories and adventures. I have seen some of the many documents
my father brought to the US when he came here in
1947 after his parents were murdered in Auschwitz, but the following subject
matters need *any* documentation obtainable.

If anyone is familiar with Camp Bertholet, Schotland Metal Works in France,
Captain Joliet of the French Army, Colonel Ismael (______?______)*, who
passed away in Nice in 1945 and possibly Leon Blum, A Resistance leader in
Avignon, *please* contact me in private.

* Ismael's last name is not recalled but it was known that he was related
to King Farouk of Egypt.

If anything *may* need to be sent to me that can help, I will pay for all
copycosts and postage.

With deep and great appreciation,

David Joel Priever (Jamaica, Queens County, NY)

Ketros/Chetrosu, Moldava #romania

Levindedham@...

OK, >from family history I have figured my WAPNERS are >from Ketrosy, Moldova,
currently known as Chetrosu. There were 10 Jewish families there around
the early 1900's.

My Wapner's left between 1904 and 1920. I am told that Isreal, the oldest child
from a marriage between Sender WAPNER and Thuba WENIER was shot by Cossaks
in revenge for some crime. There should be a record of this. I need to find
information on them, as far as last names of families and anything else.

Y-DNA Test Markers & Uncertainty #dna

Eden Joachim <esjoachim@...>

I would like to have several males who carry the name JOACHIM tested
to determine where the most recent common ancestor falls. I have gone
back 5-6 generations with documentation on most branches without
finding the common ancestor, although all known ancestors came from
the same general vicinity in Galicia, Austro-Hungary. The time frame
of the possible common ancestor is 1780-1820.

Would I be best off using the 25 marker test in this instance or would
the 12 marker test be sufficient to determine a likely common ancestor
at least 7 generations back? Which test would be most productive in
the long run?

Thanks for the advice of those with expertise.
