Re: Romanian Archives #hungary

This is in response to the Rom-sig posting for any responses to
queries sent to the Romanian Archives.

Each of my letters sent on 9 September 2005 to the Romanian Archives
address and the Romanian Jewish Community address respectively have
yielded no response to date.

I'm waiting...

Beatrice Markel
Redondo Beach, California

PS also waiting for the next chapter of Patricia Olsen's report on her
recent trip to the Piatra Neamt and Galati area.
The first part was great!!

Thanks for translation from Romanian into English #romania

Martin Fischer

I wish to express my gratitude to all those who responded to my request for
translation of a four-page letter written in Romanian in 1924 that I posted
to Viewmate.
And I also apologize for the delay in my expression of thanks. I had to be
out of town for several days on a personal matter and could not check my
e-mail.
Thanks again for your help with the translation.

I have a copy of a letter dated 1958 >from Baruch, son of the Grand Rabbi
DRUBITCHER, B.M. at XX Montifiore Street, Tel Aviv, Israel to my great aunt in

phone books, etc. to see if there is still a DRUBITCHER Rebbe in existance
there?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

A guess that may help you: The name of the newspaper may have been
closer to "Unirii", which means "Unity" or "Union" in Romanian. It's a
name that pops up frequently in Romania, in recognition of the union
of separate principalities to form the Romanian state.

Wainer/Weiner/Waner/Winer #lithuania

Gene Rosenblum

My great grandfather was Israel Waner/Wainer, married to Kleine Malka. They
lived in Shavel Kovno Gubernia in about 1820. They had the following
children: Yanke/Yakov; Morris/Moishe/; Shira Lea;Mayer;Chaim;Ephraim; and
Schmuel/Samuel. I believed he died in about the 1920's. Morris, Mayer and
Samuel came to the USA; Chiam and Ephraim settled in South Africa. I do not
know anything about Yanke and I believe Shira Lea may have come to New York.
I would like to know more about these relatives. I would appreciate any
help.

Announcing the Biskupice (Lublin) PSA Project #poland

RobinnM@...

Dear JRI-Poland Readers:

Jewish Records Indexing - Poland is pleased to announce that we've
recently created an index of the Jewish vital records issued in Biskupice,
Lublin District >from the last half of the 19th century through 1904!

Biskupice is about 10 miles >from Lublin and Piaski. These records are
kept in the Lublin branch of the Polish State Archives and are not
available through the Mormons. The records indexed include: 1862-1904
births, 1859-1904 marriages, and 1863-1904 deaths.

The Biskupice PSA project must raise $550 US to pay for this already
complete work. The data can only be added to the JRI-Poland database
after the project has been completely funded. Donations of any size are
greatly appreciated. Donors of $100 or more will be eligible to obtain
their own copy of the EXCEL spreadsheet via email following the signing
of the Biskupice database sharing agreement. Donations are tax-deductible
for US and Canadian taxpayers.

Please visit http://www.jri-poland.org/visa.htm for more information on
how to make tax-deductible donations, or send your check, money order or
credit card information to:

rabbinical records in West Ukraine #galicia

Jacqueline Pollak <jacqueline.pollak@...>

I try to to make the genealogy of a family Ascher-Pollak-Treitler wich was
living ca 1900 in the district of Stanislawow (today Ivano-Frankivsk in
Ukraine)
Does anybody know rabbinical sources in that neighbourhood ? Or was anything
destroyed by the nazis ? And for example is there a synagogue in function
to-day in Ivano-Frankivsk or Frankovsk ?
I thank in advance all those who could give me some help

Detailed maps of (galicia) Southern Poland, Northern Hungary #galicia

phylliskramer1@...

I stumbled upon these Polish maps on a Lemko site.
They are high resolution maps of the southeastern
corner of poland...and a little of ukraine (so lots of
the ex-galician area). The site says the maps were
recently released for public use by the headquarters
of the Polish Army. They are full color and terribly
exciting....as you can see your shtetls and the surrounding
areas quite clearly.

They are fairly large at 300KB, but certainly worth downloading!!
I intend to put some on my shtetlinks sites for Krosno Jaslo
Rymanow Zmigrod Dukla Korczna Frysztak Strzyzow and Jaslo .
