Can someone translate the word Zastrselona. It relates to the cause of
death on a 1916 Polish death record in the city of Lviv. I have looked
in a Polish to English medical dictionary and cannot find it listed.

Help with ethical questions related to DNA match and request to join my family tree #ukraine

Patricia Klindienst <epk13@...>

Has anyone out there received queries >from total strangers who claim to be related because of their DNA results? Has anyone dealt with requests to be invited to join a family tree so they can pursue their research?

I need help with the ethical as well as a practical questions regarding queries that have come to me >from someone who says his DNA test results mean he is related to a branch of the family tree I have spent years creating. He asks that I allow him access so he can pursue his research. I am reluctant to grant his request.

He has sent me a link to a GEDMatch.com kit, but I don't know how to evaluate it. Can anyone help me with this?

I would like to hear privately form others who may have received queries >from total strangers who feel they are related and expect permission to research in depth a family tree. How have you dealt with this?

I am troubled by the tone of the request, the writer's sense of secrecy and drama, his claim that he's searching for his birth father and that finding my site suggests that his hunches about his true identity were correct, etc.

As the creator of a tree that includes families in Israel, Argentina, and Canada as well as the US, I take seriously my responsibility to protect everyone's right to privacy.

Any stories or guidance or help reading a DNA result would be greatly appreciated.

The history of this name is very well documented. Shapiro derives
from the town of Speyer in the German Rhineland. In Jewish sources
the town was called Spira or Spiro in the middle ages. The surname
was first noted among Jews in Germany in the 1400s and later it spread
throughout central and eastern Europe, especially (but not only) in
northern areas of the Pale of Settlement, such as in Minsk and Belarus
generally.

Some Jewish sources will claim that the name has a connection with
some similar-looking Aramaic words found in the Talmud, but this is
certainly only a folk etymology.

I would interested in getting information on the location of these

Lithuanian surnames (daughters) #lithuania

Alyssa Freeman

Hi, all -

I have a question about the surnames of daughters in Lithuania. I
have a couple of female ancestors who seem to have maiden names that
were not the same as their father (or not what documents in this
country say their maiden name was). One, >from what other relatives
have told me and has documents that show this, had the maiden name
FEINSTEIN (Rasha Minie FEINSTEIN), but records on the All-Lithuania
Database give it - consistently - as variations of SHACHAR, and her
father was apparently a Rabbi with that last name (Yehuda Leib
SHACHAR, according to a post on Kevarim.com about her husband).

Her death records give FEINSTEIN as her maiden name. (If it was SHACHAR,
does anyone know anything about Rabbi Yehuda Leib SHACHAR, who had
grandson with the same name was also a Rabbi? He was pretty
well-known. There's a Rabbi Yehuda Leib who was >from Rumsiskes, where
Rash Minie's husband was from, but left and went to Vilnius. I don't
know where in Lithuania Rasha Minie was born and the Rabbi Yehuda Leib
mentioned in the Kehila Links for Rumsiskes seems like he was old
enough to be her grandfather, at least, not her father. I can provide
the Kevarim link if anyone is interested).

Another one's father was clearly LEVANISKY (Itsik LEVANISKY), yet her
maiden name was GORDON (Feige GORDON). It's given as GORDON in her
marriage record on the ALD. Her mother's maiden name isn't listed and
I don't think her father's surname is given, either. I have MIRREL in
my records, but I'm not sure if that's a surname or part of her given
name. If it is her surname, was it her father's or her mother's?
