Female DNA

Keith Hatfield <hatfield.1@...>
Having checked the FAQ DNA site I still have some questions for
which I would like some anwers. Can anyone help? 1) I have a Jewish Mother but Gentile Father, is there any way to check my family line/origins? 2) Although I have a brother, he of course also has a Gentile Father which makes it difficult to trace anything on the Y chromosome, does the X chromosome tell us anything? 3) My Mother, who is Jewish has a very rare blood group (something like AB2 positive. I will confirm this later) which is limited to something like 1 in 500,000 people. Does this tell us anything? I would appreciate some advice and help on this matter. Yours Sincerely S. Hatfield

Re: Brick Wall re: Kronen Family
#general
phylliskramer1@...
Ira Leviton asked for help with his Kronen family, after doing extensive
research in NYC. Brick Walls are the most challenging for genealogists; and Ira has asked for suggestions: 1. With the wife's maiden name, and the 1930 census, look around the "neighborhood" for *her* family. Try the Steve Morse front end for Ellis Island (on JewishGen) and research *her* manifest, looking for who she came with and to whom she came. Unfortunately you cannot look for a remarriage as the NYC Bride's index only goes to 1938. 2. Try other surnames. You sought Kronen, but in the 1930 census it was Korman. 3. Look for naturalization because it would give you the exact birthdates of the children; with those dates you can try the SSDI and FindUSA; this is a great way to get around the married names; but the year alone is not sufficient. 4. Complete the form for Alien Registration for Yetta (circa 1942) if you suspect she was never naturalized. That would give you the children's birthdates also. 5. Try the NY Times (at many libraries). But i must admit, what blows my mind is that the surname KRONEN is not registerred on the JewishGen Family Finder. Ira....Posting your query on this list is a great idea, but you limit your audience to this list. The JewishGen family finder has entries >from over 180,000 researchers; Every month almost 5000 new researchers register, post their surnames and check that database. How can other genealogical researchers find you? if you don't register on the database? why not go to www.jewishgen.org and click on JGFF...and add the KRONEN surname? -- and....Happy Hunting! Searching for SCHWARTZBAUM/CAMINSKY, New York City
#general
clea <clea@...>
I have now verified that the sons of Charles SCHWARZBAUM and Leah ABRAMS
began spelling their last name with a "t". I am seeking information on Gustav (Gus) SCHWARTZBAUM who married Jessie CAMINSKY in 1905 in NYC, daughter of Esther YAEGER and Samuel CAMINSKY. They had one son, which the 1920 census identifies as SANFORD, born about 1914. Jessie and Gus are apparently divorced at this time and she is living with her mother in NYC. Gustav is shown as a traveling salesman and lodger in Boston. I have not found them in the 1930 census. Nor do I find a Sanford in the SSI or people search type web sites. I have found the obit for Gus in the NYT and it does not mention any family other than his brother, Abe (Abraham Charles). If Jessie remarried is it likely the child would have used the stepfather's name? If so is there any way to try to locate them in census records using the two popular commercial sites? Any help is appreciated. Searching for SACHS and GRAETZ
#general
"Sachs-Amrami,Naomi,GLENDALE,FTD Export"...
Dear cousins,
I'm hoping that someone out there will recognize the names of my G-GF's brother, sister and nephew and perhaps what happened to them during / after WWII. My great-grandfather, Hans Gottschalk SACHS, born 1882 had a younger sister Lotte (born July 1886) and a younger brother Friedrich (born January 1889). All three were born in Berlin to Hermann and Bertha Emma (nee ZIRKER) SACHS. Lotte married Hugo GRAETZ, probably around 1905. They had a son, Gerd GRAETZ who would have been born sometime between 1906 - 1914 in Berlin. According to the Berlin tax authority, Lotte and Hugo emigrated to Czechoslovakia in 1933, and Hugo died there sometime between April and September 1934. According to cards on file at the ITS, Gerd emigrated to Cuba in 1933, and Lotte emigrated in 1934, presumably after Hugo passed away. >from there I have lost the trail. I have checked the Social Security Death Index, thinking that they may have emigrated to the US, as did many Germans - but so far to no avail. Gerd would be in his upper 90's if still alive today, and I am trying trying trying to find him or his descendants (assuming that he married and had children at some point) before the trail gets any colder than it already is. As for Friedrich, he is listed in the Berlin address book until 1938, at which point he disappears. Yad Vashem researched their files for me, and I have searched all the holocaust databases I can find, but without any luck. I firmly believe that he survived - and emigrated - but to where??? He was a licensed engineer, and ran a radio shop in Berlin at the end of the 30's. Do any of these people ring any bells with anyone out there? If so, or even if there is a remote possibility, please contact me directly.
