Lithuanian Box Taxpayers Lists

<<From: Debra Price <dsprice@optonline.net>
I found a listing for Shaya Fayvush PRUSEL >from Vabalninkas who may be related. Is this the entire record, or is there more info available if I contact the archive?>> Box Taxpayers Lists contain a limited amount of information. I doubt if more information is in the original record than what you saw in the database. However, it could serve as good information that will enable the archive to find other records. Need Research Help NY City Directories 1900-1910
#general
Sabra Waldfogel <sawaldfogel@...>
Can anyone recommend a researcher to look up two individuals (Falick
Novick, Pesach Novick) in Manhattan city directories >from 1900 to 1910? It's more than a few minutes' effort, so I'd be willing to compensate someone reasonably for their time and for duplicating/mailing costs. As a last resort, there's the NYPL Research service, but they seem awfully steep for a small project like this one... Thanks. Sabra Waldfogel MODERATOR NOTE: This sort of request has been discussed in the JewishGen Discussion Group a number of times. For some helpful suggestions, check the JewishGen Discussion Group Archives at http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsys~archpop and search for city directory lookups.

British WW1 military service
#general
Florence Mitchell
The discussion of British military service reminds me that my grandfather,
Jacob Rappaport of Brooklyn, NY (underage at the time), served with the British army during WW1, with what I vaguely recall might have been called the Jewish Brigade. I have found his return transport, as well as that of his older brother William (orig. Velvel) on the Ellis Island site. Out of curiosity, does anyone know whether there are online records of British military service >from that time? Florence Mitchell fmitchellmd@earthlink.net

Why is it that the burial database does not have cemeteries in Montreal. or
Ottawa? Rhoda Saslove Miller Business Manager Ottawa Jewish Bulletin Ottawa, ON RSasloveMiller@jccottawa.com MODERATOR NOTE: The International Jewish Cemetery Project does list cemeteries in both Montreal and Ottawa. Go to http://www.jewishgen.org/cemetery/northamerica/ and click on Ontario and Quebec. The JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry (JOWBR) does not yet include listings of specific burials >from these cemeteries. This may be because nobody has yet volunteered to gather and compile the data, or because the projects are underway but have not yet reached the stage of placing data online. Dear Genners
I have posted a page of my GGF British naturalisation papers at http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=7153. I am completely unable to decipher the name given as his birthplace, so I wonder if anyone else will have more success! Family lore has it that he originated >from Minsk ... but whatever it says on this record it certainly *isn't* Minsk. Thanks in anticipation. Please reply privately. 1924 F.A. Cup Soccer Final
#general
Ann Rabinowitz <annrab@...>
Based on a family story, one of our relatives, Israel CHORITZ, attended the
1924 F.A. Cup Final Soccer Match at Wembly in London on his way from Lithuania to South Africa. As this seemed unlikely as the Poor Jews' Temporary Shelter Record states that he only stayed one day before proceeding to South Africa, I wouldl like to confirm when the match occurred exactly. Does anyone know how to determine when that match occurred? The record I have states that he was in London on September 24-25, 1924. It is possible that once I learn the date of the match that it may turn out that the record was actually for Israel's brother Samuel who travelled around the same time. Thanks for any assistance.
