Any insight to the name type G-K-C ASPARI. This sir name was found many times
in Poland as GASPAR or CASPARI. I am looking specifically for Frank GASPAR or TRAZY (G-C-K) ASPAR. May I donate money to your research project? MODERATOR NOTE: Donations for all JewishGen-sponsored projects are warmly welcomed. WWI military research

Irene Newhouse <einew@...>
In his autobiography "In the Nick of Time", my distant cousin Max HEITLINGER
describes his brother-in-law Richard Moschkowitz thus: "Bielitz was the headquarters of the Infantry Regiment Number 55; many young men volunteered... Among them was Richard, Nelly's brother, who soon advanced to lieutenant." He goes on to say, "he got one of the first gold medals of valour..." for an action on the Italian front, where he turned captured Italian cannons back on their original owners. It would seem this should be a fairly well documented event, but I need advice on how to go about looking for it. I've found on the internet that in 1914 the 55th was in Lemburg [now L'viv] & the 13th was in Bielitz, but I don't know what to make of that fact, other than perhaps the author's memory was erroneous after all that time. Thanks for any help in advance! Irene Newhouse Kihei HI

Mordechai ZACKHEIM-Pinsk 19th cent.
#rabbinic
ben-ari <yrcdi@...>
Several months ago I posted a request as to descendants of Rabbi
Mordechai ZACKHEIM of Ruzhinoi and Pinsk during the 19th cent. I was forwarded to George Sackheim editor of the ZACKHEIM family tree, "Scattered Seeds," and he gave me the names of the only descendants known to him, a Bella and Mordechai MAKOVSKY, last known address Holon, Israel. It seems that this couple is no longer "with us," and I haven't yet been able to track down their descendants. Is there anyone out there that are descendants of the above Mordechai ZACKHEIM? Thanks in advance Best Wishes, Yoni Ben-Ari, Efrat, Israel PS. I would appreciate suggestions regarding possible contacts, but please make sure that those contacts are likely to have the specific information I mentioned above

Alice Josephs
My mother, who was born in 1931, and her elder sister were pupils at the De
Hirsch school in Paris >from 1938-9. They were evacuated with the Jewish scout movement first to Dinard and then to Beaulieu in the Dordogne until June 1940. There was an older girl called Annette and also children including girls called Jeanette, Helene, Marguerite and Simone. Along with my mother, their first names may have originally been of non-French origin and changed when in France. I would like to ask if there is anyone else out there who was at the De Hirsch school and/or was evacuated to Dinard and Beaulieu at the same time as my mother? Have there been any books or research on this? My mother met two other survivors >from that time after the war Madame ALTSHUL who lived in Paris and her daughter Charlotte ALTSHUL who was in Switzerland in 1948. There was also a son ALTSHUL who survived the war elsewhere. Madame ALTSHUL may have been interned with my grandmother in the Velodrome d'Hiver (the bicycle racing stadium) in Paris. The ALTSHUL mother and daughter both had flaming red hair, if this jogs the memory of anyone. County Histories in Canada
#usa
samorai <samorai@...>
Rachel Unkefer's 30 October suggestion that U.S. County Histories may be
fruitful genealogical sources can be applied ditto for Canada. I not only found a flattering reference to my g-grandfather in a County History from the late 19th c. but also uncovered that the author was a close friend of my g-grandfather. This could account for the flattery but the local newspaper was also flattering over a thirty year period, which included a change of editors. So add local newspapers for your genealogical searches as well. Paul King Jerusalem <samorai@012.net.il>

Thanks Rachel,
County histories can be very helpful. All should also be looking for local Jewish histories. The following URL will show you a list compiled in 2000 by the IAJGS (actually the LA-JGS). Searching the Library of Congress catalog may yield some published since then. http://www.iajgs.org/bibliography.html Gladys Friedman Paulin, CG Winter Springs, FL http://genealogybygladys.com

I am also seeking direct male line members >from any LOEWENHEIM or WANGENHEIM family for this test. Thanking anyone for any suggestions of people to contact Regards Peter Lowe Hertford, England Web site with DEWITZ, WANGENHEIM & LOEWENHEIM families: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pnlowe/loewenhe.htm Researching: LOEWENHEIM, WANGENHEIM, DEWITZ, JERUSALEM, BEYKOVSKY, HERZ & KROHN (West & East Prussia), JARUSLAWSKY, ADLER & EISNER (Bohemia) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: POLACSEK From: "Dilys Lande" <pdlande@starpower.net> Date: Tue, 1 Nov 2005 14:06:32 -0500 X-Message-Number: 4 Otto and Helene POLACSEK are both listed in the Austrian Holocaust death database (www.doew.at) as having died in Auschwitz. They were, therefore, presumably Austrian citizens. However, they are not listed as property declarants immediately after Anschluss, and presumably had already left Austria. This is confirmed by their listings as having been deported and perished as follows: Otto born 23/9/89 in Weenen was deported from Westerbork in Holland to Auschwitz where he died 3/8/42. Helene nee Brand born 30/7/01 (place of birth not given) was deported >from Malvines in Belgium to Auschwitz and died there 15/1/43. The place of birth can probably be obtained by writing to Malvines. There are numerous other persons with the surname POLACSEK, including two in Austria (Egon and Rosamunde) but I know of no way of determining whether they are related.
