"Hol es hanyazor tortent a kihirdetes?

Probably the Hungarian text is the following
Sarospatak rabbinatustol bizonyitvany a Kassan hirdetes elengedtetett.
Attest >from the rabbinate >from Sarospatak that the announcement was
dispensed/released.

Sarospatak rabbi natustol bironyit vany a Kassan

The rabbi of Saeaospatak certified that there was an
announcement in Kassa and authorized it.

This phrase is under the column heading : "Hol es

This means "Where and how many times was the wedding
publicized"?

In Europe and probably other places a marriage must be
published (nowadays usually at the city hall) so that
if anyone has reasons to oppose it they can do so.
Such as to avoid bigamy, under age, shotgun etc., also
hence the phraseology in the ceremony to the effect:
"Is there any reason why these two people should not
be married?"

As far as I know there is no 1848 Census available for
Deutschkreutz/Nemet Keresztur, The only Jewish record
is the births, marriages, deaths records under LDS FHL
film 700836.

searches on surnames, given names, or town names.
Donors who contribute more than $100 to JewishGen
operations participate in JewishGen's Value-Added

Database Search Features that allow a combintion of
multiple search criteria, using Boolean AND/OR
searches. This allows more focused, targeted
searches.
For example, you can search for all persons whose
surname sounds like "Katz" and whose first name
starts with "Abr". Or you can search for family
groups containing a particular set of given names,
within a particular town. You can also filter
searches for data updated since a specific date. So
if you've already searched a database, you can now
search only for data recently added/updated, since a
certain date, without re-viewing data that you've
previously searched. JewishGen continues to offer
basic search capabilities at no cost to users but is
providing this feature as one way of saying thanks

My Grandfather's House film screening #general

Eileen Douglas <faithdouglas@...>

Dear JewishGen members,

We wanted to let those in the Baltimore and Greater Washington, D.C.
area know that our documentary "My Grandfather's House" will be
screening at the Jewish Museum of Maryland in Baltimore on Sunday,
November 6th, at 2 p.m. The museum is located at 15 Lloyd Street in
Baltimore, phone number is 410-732-6400.
Filmmakers Eileen Douglas and Ron Steinman will be present for a Q &A.
My Grandfather's House follows the determined search to find the
house the filmmaker's grandfather lived in in Kovno, Lithuania before he
fled to America in 1911 to avoid conscription in the Tsar's Army. With
only fragments to guide the way, the documentary is an attempt to left
the veil of darkness and discover "where it all began."
My Grandfather's House has screened in Chicago, Los Angeles, the
IAJGS convention in Las Vegas, the National Yiddish Book Center, and the
Library of Congress in recent months. We hope those in the area can
join us in Baltimore.

Eileen Douglas

Jack LAWRENCE/ Jacob L. SCHWARTZ #general

Joan Rosen <jgrosen@...>

The composer and lyricist Jack LAWRENCE, nee Jacob L. SCHWARTZ, is a distant
relative. I am including bio information about him in my genealogy program.
I would like to include a collage of the *original* covers of the sheet
music for any of his songs, whether he was lyricist, or composer, or both.
I have been unable to obtain copies of any of those *original* covers,
although I have newer reprints, which are not as interesting and colorful as
the old ones.

I seek copies of those covers--I do not need the entire piece of music. I
would be happy to receive them via email attachments, or through postal mail
( I will send my address to any who need it for that purpose.)

Below is a long list of what he wrote (he has lived a long and productive
life, and is still composing in his nineties.) Please pardon the long
posting.

The following is a list of the songs Jack wrote, either the words or the
music or both, between 1920 and 1979. Neither the dates of the individual
songs nor his role as composer or lyricist is given in this first list. It
is >from a book called *Popular Music*, edited by Nat Shapiro, c1979:

All or Nothing at All; Beyond the Sea (English version); Choo Choo Train;
Ciribiribin (They're So in Love); Concerto for Two; Delicado: Faith; The
Greatest Mistake of My Life; Hand in Hand; A Handful of Stars; Hold My
Hand; Huckleberry Duck; Had a Ball; I f I Didn't Care (The Ink Spots
Theme Song); I'll Hate Myself in the Morning; I'm Glad for Your Sake (but
I'm Sorry for Mine); In an Eighteenth Century Drawing Room; In the Moon
Mist; It's Funny to Everyone but Me; Johnson Rag; Linda (written for the
Linda who became Linda McCartney); Merry-Go-Round; Moonlight Masquerade;
My Heart Isn't in It; No One but You; The Other Half of Me; Passing By;
Play, Fiddle, Play; The Poor People of Paris; By the Sleepy Lagoon; So
Far, So Good; Sunrise Serenade; Symphony; Tenderly; To You My Love;
Vagabond Dreams; The Valentino Tango; What Will I Tell My Heart; What's
Your Story, Morning Glory; With the Wind and the Rain in Your Hair; Yes, My
Darling Daughter.

The *ASCAP Biographical Dictionary*, which was published 1980, lists a
additional titles by songs and by lyrics:

Songs: Almost; Big Boy Blue; Fickle Finger of Fate; Foolin' Myself; My
Bel Ami; My Love Has Two Faces; Susan Slept Here; Talk to Me 'Bout the
Hard Times; What Would People Say?

Lyrics: Boy Scout in Switzerland; Never Smile at a Crocodile; Poor People
of Paris; Song of the Barefoot Contessa; Trembling of a Leaf; What's Your
Story, Morning Glory?

In addition, Jack wrote the scores of the following Broadway shows: I Had a
Ball; Courtin' Time; Ziegfeld Follies; Crazy with the Heat; and for the
following films: Torch Song; Dinner at Eight; Lady Eve; Peter Pan;
Valentino; Sleeping Beauty; Manhattan Merry-Go-Round; Susan Slept Here;
Only Game in Town; Bachelor's Daughters; Affairs of Bel Ami; Flame and
the Flesh; Deadfall; Fedora; The Pawnbroker

He has written songs more recently, but I do not know the titles. I know he
has written some for Barbra Streisand. I thought he had written the words
to Bei Mir Bist du Shayn, but I am not certain.

Any would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.
