Marc CHAGALL's family tree
#general
eatwelbwel@aol.com <eatwelbwel@...>
Does anyone know if CHAGALL's genealogy has been published and where I
might find it? The reason I am asking is because a newly reconnected with cousin shared a story detailing our distant ancestry with his family. Thanks! Sandra Fishman Reading, PA

JGS - Hamilton (Ontario, Canada) & Area - Wed, Sept 14th Meeting
#general
JGSH <jgsh@...>
Please join us for our next meeting:
When - Wednesday September 14th, 2005 Where - Temple Anshe Sholom, 215 Cline Avenue North, Hamilton 7:30 - Meet & Greet; 8PM - Speaker Please join us on Wednesday, September 14th when Glen Eker will present a Genealogy Workshop geared mainly towards beginners, but also designed to be relevant to the more experienced amongst us. Glen promises that we will learn how to get started with our searches and about materials and resources that will aid us in our search for our roots. His approach will be broad based showing us how to apply basic research principals to any search in any country. There will be ample opportunity for us to ask questions and for discussion of problems we may have experienced. Hopefully we'll all come away feeling well equipped to pursue our family history in the New Year. Because Glen's Genealogy Workshop will be longer than our usual presentations we will begin with announcements prior to 8PM so that he can begin on the hour with a break about half way through the Workshop. We will be ready to greet you at 7:30 PM which is, of course, an excellent time to join JGS - Hamilton & Area. Membership fees remain $25 per person. Non- member fees remain $5. We'd also like to remind everyone about our website at www.jgsh.org . "Hamilton Connection" is still part of our website. On this page you can post your requests(s) to fellow genealogists in Hamilton who may have long lost relatives in common with you. We'd love to hear >from you!! Sept. 19th - JGSLA Meeting - "My Grandfather's House"
#general
Pamela Weisberger <pweisberger@...>
The Jewish Genealogical Society of Los Angeles presents the Los Angeles
premiere of the film: "My Grandfather's House: The Journey Home" Monday, September 19th, 7:00 PM Skirball Cultural Center, Magnin Auditorium 2701 North Sepulveda Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90049 This personal documentary follows Eileen Douglas’s determined search to find her grandfather’s house in Lithuania--the home he lived in and left behind in 1911 when he fled, at 16, >from Kovno to America. Four decades after his death, with only fragments to guide the way, the documentary is Douglas’s attempt to lift the veil of darkness and discover "where it all began." PROGRAM: Before the screening, filmmaker Eileen Douglas will discuss the making of the documentary, and, in particular, what compelled this personal quest. The film will be followed by a Q & A with Douglas, co-producer/director Ron Steinman, and Douglas’ daughter Rachel Zients, of Los Angeles, who also appears in the documentary. SYNOPSIS: Eileen travels >from New York City to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, to her mother’s attic in Syracuse, to the homes of relatives, and, finally, with her daughter at her side, to the block in Kovno where her grandfather once lived. Along the way she unexpectedly unlocks the mystery of stories he never told, discovers the fate of family members lost in the war, learns of the glory that once was Lithuanian Jewry, finds living relatives missing for years in Siberia, and resurrects a family shattered by the traumas of the 20th Century. The documentary weaves together original footage, old family photographs, archival records, translations of old Yiddish letters, archival film footage, family reminiscences, interviews, conversations and music scored to evoke a vanished era. SPEAKERS: EILEEN DOUGLAS is a broadcast journalist turned documentary filmmaker. Before co-founding Douglas/Steinman Productions with producing partner Ron Steinman in 1996, she worked as a correspondent for ABC-TV’s Lifetime Magazine, following nearly 18 years at all-news WINS Radio in New York. Before moving to New York in 1975, she was an anchor/reporter and then one of the country’s first women news directors at WKLO Radio in Louisville, and co-host producer of "NOW", a TV show at WHAS.. Douglas and Steinman are also producers of the documentary "Luboml: My Heart Remembers" which aired on public television in New York and is distributed by Cinema Guild. RON STEINMAN, director and co-producer of My Grandfather’s House, began his career at 23 at NBC News and spent 35 years at the network. In 1975 he joined the Today Show, spending 11 years in a number of senior producing positions. During the 1990’s as a freelance producer for ABC, he wrote and produced a dozen A&E Biographies and Lifetime Intimate Portraits and has won a Peabody Award, a National Press Club award, two American Women in Radio & Television Awards, and been nominated for five Emmys. RACHEL ZIENTS, is Eileen’s daughter who appears in the film, lives in Los Angeles. She works as a television producer and is a freelance writer. Following in her mother’s footsteps of investigating family, she is currently working on her own project, a book about parent loss. Our meetings are open to the public. Free of charge to JGSLA members, $5 charge for guests. For further information, visit our web site at: http://www.jgsla.org Pamela Weisberger 1st V.P. Programs, JGSLA pweisberger@hotmail.com

Abuwasta Abuwasta
Dear Genners and Siggers,
I continue my search after the KOENIGSBUCH brothers from Hamburg who were on the Kindertransport.I just found out >from the British Army Personnel in Glasgow that Rolf Simon Koenigsbuch(b. 1929)served in the Royal Army Pay Corps and was discharged in 1953. He served in Malaya. I wonder whether any of the British Genners served in the RAPC in those years and remembers him. I wrote already to AJEX and they couldn't help.I wrote to the RAPC Association and am waiting for an answer. I have Rolf's testimony which was filed in 1955 at the Wiener Library. I assume that he lives in the USA but all my searches there did not produce him,so far. Any idea?? Jacob Rosen Jerusalem <abuwasta@yahoo.com>
