I see that this information is contained in the entry for Ireland on the
century-old Jewish Encyclopedia
http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=169&letter=I

This is the only source of this particular piece of information on the
Internet.

The date given is July 28 1232 but is curious that this has not been
referred to elsewhere. Maybe this was a doubtful honour, along the lines of
if there are or should be any Jews in Ireland then you have custody of them.

No doubt if such a document exists it would be in the UK National Archive or
the Irish Archive.

It would seem that he was the Sheriff of Yorkshire. Apparently he was also
keeper of King John's Castle in Dungarvan.

Dear Cousins,

A cousin in the male WOLINSKY line has recently put his DNA on the Houston,
TX site (I'm not supposed to advertise this site?). He got some 25-marker
exact match hits, but none >from WOLINSKYs (except for one, but that was
quite unusual, as his family took on the name in America & no one knows

If any WOLINSKY'S out there are interested in finding a possible match, I
suggest you do the swab.

ViewMate: Reading Yad Vashem's POT in Russian? #general

Eliana Aizim

Dear Genners,
Roza VELTMAN submitted a Page of Testimony (POT) for her
mother Khana VELTMAN/ VALTMAN in Yad Vashem. Roza's
country is given as Ukraine, the POT is in Russian. I would like to
send her a letter in English, but I need some help regarding her
address in the POT, so that I can write it on the envelope. I have
two questions:
1. what is Roza's address in the POT?
2. should I write it in Cyrillic or in Latin letters?
I have posted the POT on ViewMate: VM 6542. Direct address:

* re: Proof of Inheritance #general

Tom Venetianer <tom.vene@...>

Dear Steve,

Two tips:

1. If you know where your wife's relatives married, then you can try to request
vital records for their children >from that place's notary. If the answer is
negative, namely that they found no children, that might constitute a proof. Of
course probate records may reveal more.

2. Try to send your message to a new group formed recently (h-justice - Holocaust
Era Restitutions Forum) < http://groups.yahoo.com/group/h-justice >. Maybe their
members can offer other tips.

Good luck
Tom

a sole survivor in her grandfather's line. Her uncle and his wife died in

On what sort of document would I find that her uncle and aunt had no children?

Visit to Polish State Archives, Warsaw #warsaw #poland

Elliott Simonberg

I may visit the Polish State Archives in Warsaw this fall. Has anybody
recently visited there and conducted personal research? Through
JRI-Poland, I have found out the names of a number of relatives with
accompanying index information. LDS films exist for some of the records.
Where there are no index records, is the best approach simply to visit the
archives? How helpful are the people there, given language barriers,
especially where exact years are not known and some individuals' records
are probably in years that have not been indexed so far. I realize one can
order records >from PSA as well. How easy and efficient has that process
gone for people?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Hi

I am looking for some logic on what villages appear on what films. I
reviewed recently the LDS Catalog-- Szabolcs county, a total of 19 films.

There are some films which list only one village as item(certainly won't
fill up the entire film!), and some others which apparently include
villages >from different districts. An alpha sort also doesn't seem to
work

It might be expensive, but you could pay to have a photocopy made. For rare

Subject: [h-sig] How to get a book?

Dear all,

I need a tip. My uncle, a Holocaust victim and a quite prominent lawyer,
wrote a book, published in 1938. I discovered a copy in a Slovak library and
tried to buy it but was turned down by the chief librarian.

Any ideas about how I could convince her to sell it to me. To the library
the book is just an old tractate dusting on their shelves, for me an
invaluable memorabilia.

Many thanks and regards
Tom
