I just want to write and thank all of you who responded to my question
regarding the town name. I had not thought of it in terms of being a
Gubernia but as another shtetl my family had lived in. As most of you
pointed out in your messages, I now have the Gubernia, all I have to do
now is find the town. Thank you all again for your help and suggestions.

explanation of notation: "Sura dn. 18 I 1939 do Warszawy" #poland

Robert Strumwasser <RobertStrumwasser@...>

Hi
I recently came across the following notation/abbreviation, and I was hoping
that someone could tell me what it means.

"Sura dn. 18 I 1939 do Warszawy" The "18 I 1939" almost certainly refers to
a date of January 1, 1939.

The notation appears in the 1939 Biala Podlaska Census, and refers to a
woman named Sura Sztromwaser, born July 10, 1910 in Biala Podlaska.
Any help/thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Robert Strumwasser

It is to mark the centenary of the United Archive of German Jews.

This was drawn to my attention by Hazel Dakers in JCR-UK.

It would be interesting to know whether the papers are to be published?
Did anyone go to this Conference and get any papers? If so could they get in
touch with me privately.

German City Ending In "erfrits" #general

My gg grandfather arrived in New York on September 7th, 1853 on the
Elizabeth >from Bremen. His final destination was Cincinnati. His place of
origin looks like it's "_erfrits", but I can't make out the first letter.
It looks like it can be "H" or "W" "ST" or "LB". Does anyone have a clue as
to what the place might be? I can email the manifest if anyone is
interested in looking at it directly.

Thanks for your help.

Looking for PELTZ family - NY/NJ #general

Yaacov Slizak <yslizak@...>

Hi,

I'm looking for any information related to the family of Joseph and Anna
PELTZ.

Joseph was born in 1874 in Dubienka, Poland. He arrived in the USA by 1909.
Anna SPOSOB nee PELTZ was born in 1881 in Kurytnycja, Ukraine. She arrived
in 1912.

3 daugthers to this couple: Mary (b:1912), Rose (b:1914) and Ethel (b:1917).

I have reasons to believe Ethel married a George WAGMAN. I have no
information on the other two daugthers. One of them may have been a dentist,
but I can't confirm it.

Any information that could lead to identify descendants of this couple will
be greatly appreciated. Please reply privately.
Thanks

Hi list,

has anybody ever come across Klein Bubna or Bubny in Czech?
Until 1884 it was an independent town/village and then became a part of

Today Prague Holesevice-Bubny is Prague VII.

My gggrandfather Josef Lang was born there in 1802.

According to Jiri Fiedler's "Jewish Sights of Bohemia and Moravia" there
existed a prayer hall in Bubny from the mid 19th century and a synagoge

I have not been able to find birth records for Josef Lang in the Prague
