Handwriting problem #general

Israel P

I have two handwriting questions >from E Galician birth records. They can
be seen at http://www.pikholz.org/Handwriting.html

One is fairly straight-forward. The other involves a person known on
Pages of Testimony as Shaul, but whose birth record seems to say "Sanel."

I would be pleased to get some enlightened opinions.

Accomodations NYC Conference #general

jane voegel-kochai <vogelko@...>

I don't as yet have any plans to attend the conference, and if I will,
I will probably stay with a friend or relative, But if I might make a
suggestion for those who are seeking less expensive accomodations -
how about a group getting together, taking rooms in New Jersey or
Westchester or where ever, and then hiring a bus or mini-bus to go in to
NYC in the morning and return at night. I don't know the prices or the
logisitcs, but I would imagine that if there were enough people interested,
the savings >from the hotel and sharing the cost of transportation might make
it wothwhile. Just a thought.

Cheap accommodation #general

David Kravitz

The simplest way to find cheap accommodation or travel is to use an Internet
search engine such as Google and enter as many words that describe precisely
what you are looking for. Google will advise if you need to broaden your
search and it is highly unlikely that you would find bargain beds or flights
almost twelve months in advance. Last minute bargains come >from companies
specializing in last minute bargains, often reflected in their company name.
So can we now get back to genealogy, please?

Ludwig PFANTZLER, Born 1714 #germany

Ms Sarah Walls <walnut1946@...>

I am looking for the parents or other family of my
ancestor Ludwig (Lewis) PFANTZLER, Born 1714, I think
in Germany. Also spelled PFANTZELER, PFANTZLER,
PFANZLER or the French PONCLER.

I believe the PFANTZLERs lived chiefly in Germany and
before that in France. Possibly Sephardic Jews.

Ludwig immigrated to America on the Ship Elizabeth
from Rotterdam but last >from Cowes, England. He
married Anna Biegel 1st and possibly a second wife
named Sarah. They lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Seeking: Otto NEWBERGER (New York) #general

Phil <philknight01@...>

My wife is trying to track details of her great grandfather Otto
NEWBERGER'S birth in New York. We're not fully sure of the date,
because in the 1881 UK census, his age augegsts birth in 1858, but by
1901 his age suggests he was born in 1861! The only other clue we have
is his father's name >from the marriage certificate, which has been
rendered as Seigismund Newberger. Whether that is really the spelling
or the result of mis-copying by Somerset people unfamiliar with the
name (at the time of the wedding or when the copy certificate was
produced) is uncertain.

No results >from the LDS website. We know there were relatives in the
Weisbaden area in the early 20th century - who seem to use a Neuburger
spelling. We'd be very grateful if anyone can help.
